This brings out the LOLs big time. I would NEVER become a fan of Insurance Journal on Facebook unless I was lame to the mother effing core!
Facebook is for posting party pics and writing stupid crap on people’s walls. I love it how this whole generation of baby boomers is now on Facebook all because of hype in the media. I keep Facebook purely personal, no business.
Becoming a fan of IJ on Facebook sends the following statement: I’M REALLY, REALLY BORING AND HAVE NO LIFE AND I LIKE INSURANCE- YAY! :)
I’m saddened to find that IJ will now be providing dating opportunities on FB as well as helping to educate the insurance community. In this frustrating marketplace, who has the time to “play” on FB other than Mr Madoff?
What’s next? IJ Reality Show on BRAVO?
“Keeping up with the Greenbergs?”
While I generally agree that it seems IJ is just jumping on a bandwagon regarding their FB group, social networking and web 2.0 are legitimate ways of connecting people and sharing information (read conducting business) After all, isn’t that what this comment forum is for?
As I type this in on my BlackBerry I’m saddened to see the Dwight and Mamie approach far too many in our industry take regarding new technologies and ways of doing things. If you don’t like it, do us all a favor and get out of the business already.
I’m with you on this. I was not stampeded to the internet at first either because I thought it was just another rush of lemmings. From what I could tell from my kids, Facebook is just what you mentioned: writing on the bathroom walls and that is reflected in the comments. I have a large enough social life that I do not have to reach out on line. But I am a bit choosy about which groups and clubs that I want to belong to. I can’t help but remember something from my early 20s: “fools names and fools faces are always seen in public places”.

Chuck,
Get off my lawn!!. Whatever happened to submitting ACORD apps thru the mail?
LOL – that was hilarious – just what TV needs another snoozer reality show :-)
CompMan…why would you want to submit paper apps?
truth is that paper can be lost and adds days to the process.
In competitive enviro don’t you want to be first in and get the quote?
