I’m with all of you. I have seen a drastic cut in commissions (which is a result of decreased premiums) and much of that is due to return A/P’s on audits from last year and now we are facing the lower renewals as well as those that just gave up the ghost completely. I have frozen salaries and by the skin of our teeth have managed not to lay any off…but unless this trend evens out, that will be an undesirable option I may have to take. The same goes for many agencies that I know…

“…the US has emerged as the only country with a permanent license to finance imports by simply printing more of its own currency and sending those banknotes overseas. Every other country has to manufacture and export something that others want to buy in order to earn the necessary foreign exchange to pay for its own imports.”

In other words, any world Reserve Currency is born to fail. Cue the dollar.

You can ignore the final paragraph; the puppeteers will never let (make) any of that happen.

Did Raum Emanuel write this article. Come to South Florida and see if the recession is not having a major impact on agencies.

How is that Change working out?

    Bless ya LOL & Bill.
-where in hell/who in hell does this “survey” represent ? ?
The economy is STILL in the toilet-bowl, and will be for months and probably years to come.(unfortunately)
    It’s about JOBS, AND IMPORTS.
    NAFTA’s for the birds !
It’s about toxic assets, and Mr TARP himself (Obama)should not gloat over that “glimmer of hope” in the economy.
Zero times zero = …..well yo know the answer

Every agency I know (large and small) is laying off personnel due to cancelations/reduced payroll/reduced receipts/closed businesses/forclosures/etc/etc.

We are turning circles reducing coverages, cancellations, rewrites. These agencies were too scared to tell the truth! It’s bloodshed here in Jersey.

I have been in the business for thirty years and I have never seen it this bad. Our office is fighting cancellations, reductions in payroll on Work Comp and insured’s coming in the office advising they have filed for bankruptcy. Small business is getting hammered with this wreck of an economy.
