The only thing sadder than this situation is the fact that so many “stock analysts” still have a buy rating on BP. What the hell is wrong with these hacks?

well, when will it hit bottom? then i’d buy, because if it rose back up since the previous spill/damage.

problem, you can’t predict what the future will hold when it says bumper crop? it’s like forecasting and if it fails? you fail… so, BP, should only pay based on previous history over the past 5 yrs…

Based on what I read in the paper, the whole fishing business is a cash business. No taxes are paid by the wholesalers to the fisherman, so they have not paperwork to support their loss. I guess that they have not paid state and fed taxes either. Sucks to be them.

Do they not carry their own policy to cover business income and extra expense loss? Go to your own carry and let them subrogate back to BP, why even bother with it? You are going to have to prove what your income has been, no one can predict the future, you always hope for the best.

Well said Maria and Mess – just what I was thinking. BP and the rest of the companies at fault should be held responsible. However, there is no reason for them to throw in the towel and provide windfalls to the undeserving, as FEMA does time and again after a natural disaster.

    Maria,

Most of the fisherman do not follow what you would consider “normal business practices”. They live by their own rules and really prefer not to have any government intervention. From what I read in the paper, most do not have a commercial fishing license, registered boat or tax ID number. Sadly they have lived like this probably for generations and now that they really need and deserve financial relief, they cannot prove what historically made. Shame on the brokers who bought their goods!!! They would be better off taking the hit and going back to the status quot but it is too late for that. The IRS will get their pound of flesh I can assure you of that!!!
