Well this won’t help the reputation of our industry. Even if it proves to be false, the headlines are already out there.

There is nothing new here. Life insurers always give the beneficiary the option for a lump sum benefit, or an annuity, or any number of options for the payout. I’m sure the issue of how much premium was paid (almost always considerably less) as compared to the death benefit will not be written about in the media.
Death benefits are now and always have been tax free to the beneficiary as well. This is just another left wing liberal attempt to bad mouth the insurance industry in any way possible.

So how much interest does the government pay us for the use of our tax dollars while they have it or how about giving me interest on the funds they steal from me for my future social security. Seems I could make a lot more on my own than what the government gives me. And these people DO have the opportunity to not buy a policy if they dont like the return or interest rate. The Government has NO business suggesting that any business should pay any percentage of interest, this is the free enterprice market and businesses including insurers have a right to profit, even excessive profit in my opinion becasue I do not have to buy their product, I can get it somewhere else if I don’t like the terms. Same thing for Mortgage loans, car purchases, or any investment you can name. It is time to get the damn liberal politicians out of our pockets and off of our payroll. If your in, your out in November.

“Left wing liberal attempt to bad-mouth the insurance industry..” Really? Even this report has to be turned into a liberal or conservative issue? I think you are full of it.
I have no idea how these life policies are set up. Maybe they don’t give the beneficiaries any other option than to keep it in an account with the company. If they are only paying 1/2% then they are screwing the families, as most of these settlements receive a pretty decent interest rate on the amount that is left in the account.
