Cassandra, you evidently missed the news a week ago wherein Obama declared that the Republicanss drove the bus off the cliff, but now they would need to ride in the back of the bus. This was quite a surprise, in that people felt Obama, being black, would be sensitive to telling anyone else they needed to ride in the back of the bus.

About 4 days ago, he declared Republicans “the enemy” only to say two days ago that enemy was a poor choice of words…he said he should have said “opponent”.

SO…my words below were actually Obama’s words about Republicans, hence my post that he lacked Grace or Graciousness.

However, in your own ignorance, you have actually made a further point for me…you assumed me a racist, only to find out that your party leader is the ungracious racist.

Tune into other sources of media.

Not changing his policies to establish some predictability so that cash can be moved from reserves to productive business uses…not to limit taxes, take cap/trade off the table, remove uncertainty (make that the CERTAINTY) of higher health insurance premiums, taxes and fines…

He’s going to HOLD A MEETING. A summit.

And Goolsbee – Republicans aren’t against Obama’s ideas because Obama is for them. They’re against Obama’s ideas because they’re stupid, counterproductive, job-killers that have been demonstrated as such throughout the history of time.

    Socialism isn’t progressive.

It’s a nice thought Dan, but clearly what we’ve seen over the last 15 years has proven the reason and need for government involvement in our lives. Otherwise, the University of Chicago theory of world domination would have been implemented by the last President and his ideological cronies.

The seeds of the recession started in 2006 when the liberals took over both houses of congress. And you think Bush was an ideologue? That’s really hilarious.

And businesses are in business to generate profits for their owners. When profits become excessive, competitors will enter the market to share in those excess profits, increasing supply, reducing prices and reducing profits to a fair amount. The reverse is also true; as profits decline, companies leave the business, supply drops, prices increase and profits rise to sustainable levels.

Simple economics, except when government rules, regulations and laws make entry into the business difficult or impossible or allow underperforming companies to stay in business by giving them government handouts to the detriment of their better-run rivals. Government actions that interfere with the basic fundamentals of capitalism will always yield poor results.

Wayne, how simplistic can you get? Instead of investing in america, they re investing in China, and malysia, and Korea, and Thailand. Instead of investing in America, they are plumping a war chest to acquire the competition. the same thing happened in the 90’s, I believe. All that got us was LESS competition and more consolidation.

It is the small business and the small entrepreneur and innovator that causes good thngs to happen…not the magaliths who would sell us down the river for dog food if they can make more profit in China.

The big boys don’t like ANY restriction of their activities…Wall Street proved that. Does the term “robber baron” come back to mind?

Don’t count on it. The “talking heads” are already blathering on about how they will not compromise and how today is the first day of their efforts to finish the job in 2012. Mark Davis & Rushbo both said they are hoping for and would love to see total political gridlock.

The President mentioned during his press conference today that he thinks they can spend the next year meaningfully shoring up the economy and that “there will be time for politics later.” I think he’s being optimistic.

And government had no business looking into the underreserving for losses by hedge funds and managers so that when the ‘bets’ were called in, they had plenty of cash to pay up, and didn’t need to borrow, right? and when they needed to borrow, who was the only player on the planet who could pony up that kind of cash, the US taxpayer, in the guise of the US government….oh hell yes, we need regulation because, as you noted, business is in business for their own sake, and people can be damned if they get in the way, right? business of course was watching out for the health, wealth and well-being of all the other little folks who invested their money in the market because business assured them that was a smart move and our money was safe, right? business will now be getting the business for years to come. No need for these huge conglomerate banks/investment firms, right? just look at how successful Lehman Brothers is, right? Your comment are on the mark if everyone played by the rules but that was not the case; business will get what they deserve, a lot more scutiny and lower profits, where the money doesn’t flow only to oligarchs; after all this is a plutocracy, right?

You must be smoking rope when you reach your conclusion that the Republican advance in yesterday’s election was a result of the voters venting their “frustration over the economy”. This is one of the factors, but merely the tip of the iceberg. We are angry over the direction that this so called leader is taking the country. Government taking over business, expanding their work force with unsupportable benefits, exempting lawmakers from a flawed health care program that the general public will eventually be forced into, on and on.

This so-called Democratic ruling class must be removed from power or, I believe, America will be doomed to true third world status.

When pressed with “do you think rthis election was about more than just the economy?” he slid back into “the economy is growing, just not as fast as we’d like it to…”

The utter lack of exposure to business is clear. Words don’t matter. Just hit MUTE.

I have no doubt that the answer to every problem going forward will be to cut taxes. Yes, we face the largest deficits we’ve ever seen, no politician of any ilk will cut spending, so instead we cut taxes? Sure, and let’s fight two unfunded wars while we’re at it too. That is good for the budget too.

I had to laugh while listening to our Socialist in Chief saying he was going to be meeting with Republican leaders in the next few weeks to get their ideas on how to get the economy moving. He didn’t exactly accept their ideas on Health Care, did he? He is the head of the most unfriendly government in history to business. Instead of doing the right thing on taxes, he wants to soak the rich more than their 70% share and these are the very people that create jobs in this country. Companies aren’t hiring because they are wondering what else he has planned to “redistribute” their wealth. Until he leaves office, business will sit on their hands and survive as best they can.

let’s see…the bundling of all those sub-par mortgages would have NEVER existed if is wasnt for Charlie Rangel, Chuck Shumer and the rest of Clinton’s compatriots deregulating Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, because they felt it is a RIGHT to own a home, even if a) you cant afford one or b) you live beyond your means. None of that happened on Bush’s watch (not that i am a big fan of his either, but let’s get the truth out there).

And guess what, a lot of us baby boomers are to blame ourselves. Credit card happy, instant gratification junkies, McMansion gobbling maniacs.

Not that Joseph Cassano and his buddies didnt contribute to this mess, but you cant pin it all on one group. We are all to blame, but like Nicholson said in A Few Good Men…”you want the truth? YOU can’t handle the truth!”

Do all societies need rules/laws? Yeah, you bet. But what is going on now is definitely oligarchy moving toward socialism.

Who needs to be reigned in? UNIONS – just try and set up a convention in the Philadelphia convention center – you cant plug in a computer into an outlet without hiring a union electrician, LAWYERS – the VAST majority of our legislators are lawyers – time for term limits – and if they wont pass the law, vote them out of office.

Goolsbee is wondering whether Republicans will continue being against things that Obama is FOR??? I can assure you that they will STILL BE against Obama’s policies, because so are the American people. That is who elected the Republicans to rebuke and thwart progress of the Obama agenda. That’s governing. Goolsbee’s comment makes it clear that the White House Democrats do not understand that the American people disagree with what they want to do to our country. They will continue shoving it down our throat just like Obamacare.

Obama doesn’t really need to meet with any US business leaders, particularly in Mumbai, he could simply come to learn how money is made, and then employ policies and regulation which promote money making.

Instead, because of his extreme narcissistic ego, we will publicly watch him self destruct. Keep your video cameras ready.

They claimed Fannie & Freddie were sound and needed no further scrutiny about their practices despite the Bush Administration request 17 times that they needed to be reigned in. Also, the Unions have gotten their grubby paws into manufacturing, transportation, education and services which is making this country uncompetitive in the world stage. I am sure they will soon demand retirement age be lowered to 62 like France. We know how that is working out for them (riots in the streets, shutting down fuel delivery etc). These are really nice guys and just managed to keep Dirty Harry in office for another term.

Even Immelt came along after pinning his hopes for 60B, that B, in “green technoloby” grants, subsidies and contracts promised by the Pres (NBC did its part). When that failed to materialize, he moved off the O train.

And the trip to Mubai, oy vey, 3,000 people, 40 planes and helo all at a cost of $200,000,000 (that’s million) per day.
Tell me fiscal restraint is on his mind!

Deficit spending since the 2006 Demo take over 5 TRILLION dollars, Deficits from last year, this year and all out years as far as the eye can see over 1 TRILLION per year. This Pres has accumulated annual deficits that are larger than those from Washington to Reagan. How’s that for why America is not convinced about his pledge for fiscal restraint.

His press conf also mentioned increasing unemployment from 99 week to who knows what even while some lefty economist have indicated that doing so only extends unemployment. Face it, this Pres is a very very slow learner, but then again, he hasn’t had any experience doing anything.

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t let your remarks pass without correcting them. I don’t think anyone is giving Bush a pass on mistakes made in his administration. However, the conditions that brought on the current economic mess started with Slick Willy and continued on with the idea that everyone who wanted a home had a right to own one even though they didn’t have the means or qualify for a loan. Result: Sub Prime mortgage mess and economic meltdown while your Progressive friends including Obama while a Senator kept pumping money into Fannie & Freddie and saying everything is fine. When the Democrats took over Congress in 07, they made the problem exponentially worse with their big spending ways and this President after being elected spent 18 months ramming Healthcare down our throats instead of working on the economy all the while playing the blame game. The American people woke up to his game and now have rejected his agenda. He won’t be able to blame his way out of this anymore.

That is not to say most middle of the road Republicans are giving carte blanche to the Tea Party either. The message is: Wake the F&%^$ up and fix this mess AND WE DONT WANT OBAMACARE. Cass, I think you may have misread the electorate a bit. I think the Repub know that they have a lease on power that can only be renewed if they meet the primary goals of reducing the size of government, addressing the huge “off the books” entitlement debt that is balooning, and, alas, repeal the healthchare bill and replace it with one that includes some needed reforms concerning pre-ex, portability etc.

There is no time to bask in the glow of a victory, so they need to get to work soon. The Pres will show his true colors either by becoming pragmatic or holding to his left wing ideology. Either way, we will have a stark differnce in 2012 which will then serve to set the direction of this country for the next 25 years.

We expected more and got alot less than we hoped for. This is not the “change” we all wanted or many voted for.

Hopefully they will wake up and realize their political carreer is in jeopordy if they keep pursuing the socialist agenda they have been pushing.

Do not confuse the voting results with a mandate; most of the swing voters were protest votes or votes for fiscal responsibility…a message that needs to be given to BOTH parties. Many who voted against the Dems were registering a protest against ALL of Washington pols,,,,and having no viable third party, voted the guys in, out.

If the newly elected GOPers mistake the protest for a mandate, they will also be doomed if not the next cycle, the one after.

The wicked compromises on the healthcare bill that the Dems faced for passage (Cornhusker, etc.) that Sarah details will also come to haunt the GOP if they persist in seeking repeal; they will need to satisfy the fringe elements of their party…and that fringe is loud and scary still to many independent voters.

Do not also mistake the vote for fiscal responsibility for permission to enact the “social legislation” that many conservative GOP elements want: as another blogger said, the GOP wants govt off their backs but elements in it seem to want to impose their values and religious beliefs on the rest of us…via government action.

Sarah, I hope you are right and that the newly elected representatives stick to the business at hand which is primarily fiscal responsibility, but note that there are many personal values and “social” values tied up in what seems so simple as balancing the budget. I think the GOP will also crash and burn on those shores as have the Dems.

I hope ALL those in DC begin to show some statesmanship and leadership, lock the doors to the lobbyists, and get to the business at hand. We ALL have a stake in this election regardless of what end of the pole we are on.

Those that declare that the healthcare bill and the Obama administration are “socialist” are the fringe that you will need to muzzle…you have no idea how that talk sends independent voters up a wall…and it is not true and never was.

Enjoy your victory. I will check in with Sarah and see how she feels her guys are meaasuring up…she seems like she will be tough on “accountability.” Good. It’s time for BOTH parties to be held accountable.

    Cassandra,

Comon, you have to admit this was a total washout for Democrats.

The protest was against the Obama agenda and the policies and proceedures of the Obama administration. Lets take a quick look at it.

Obamacare: Back room deals, cornhusker kickbacks, Lousiana purchase, Florida favors. All done through a proceedural manuever never done before on a major piece of legislation, Reconcilation. Reconciliation is only supposed to be done on a budgetary item to speed up the legislative process for minor items. Your beloved racist Senator from WV. Byrd, stated it was a travasty to use it on the Healthcare reform legislation. By the way he help create the process in the rules committee.

Stimulus: Still waiting to see the unemployment rate go below 8%. 3 million created or SAVED? jobs, This term has never been used in economic statistics and like everything else from the lips of our President is vauge at best.

YES IT WAS A MANDATE, AND THE PRESIDENT BETTER WAKE UP TO THAT FACT.

Also remember that in 2012, not only is the President up for reelection but out of the 36 senate seats up, 24 are currently held by Democrats.

Mandate? I don’t think the Republicans have a mandate, but they have been charged by the electorate to do certain things to turn around this economy and country. 1. Extend the Bush Tax Cuts for everyone. 2. Stop the runaway spending bills and actually reduce the size of government. We are $1.3 Trillion in the hole and need to work toward balancing the budget. 3. Dismantle or repeal or defund Obamacare. 4. Take the balance of unspent Stimulus and put it back in the Treasury to reduce the deficit. Since the President will veto repeal, Obamacare will have to be done piecemeal to get the worst provisions, penalties, fines, taxes taken out of it. This will be a difficult proposition and it will be bloody, but the American People are demanding it and politicians beware, we will send them packing in 12 if they fail to act.

I will hold these new politicians accountable with my vote and public protest.

I think that you missed the reason for the anger of the voters though. Maybe due to the progressive’s acceptable machiavellian approach to getting legislation accomplished you have a slanted view.

Try to see it like the vast majorityy of voters did, If it were republicans in 2006 pushing through anti-abortion legislation through the use of reconciliation with back room deals with religious leaders having meetings in the halls of congress and the white house and Dennis Hastert comes out in a press conference and says you will have to just pass the legislation before you find out whats in the legislation. YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN FURIOUS!.

Statesmen and real Leaders, get everyone or at least the vast majority on board and do not use “The ends justify the Means” approach all done with an arrogant tone like “The republicans will have to get in the backseat of the car” or calling us his enemy and the Police acted stupidly without any facts.

THE REASON OBAMA IS NOT TREATED LIKE THE PRESIDENT IS BECAUSE HE DOES NOT ACT LIKE THE PRESIDENT.

He really acts like he is way over his head. Like a kid who just found out he is the leader of the free world. Today lets take 3000 of my friends on a trip to India at a cost of $200,000,000. a day. Gee wiz!

    1) first of all, stop trying to put the total blame on the president, granted it is his watch, but it takes a congress to pass laws for the president to sign.

    2) stop blaming the different parties, afterall, most of them elected officials what to do opposite of the president if of a different party no matter how it might affect the american people.

    3) we need term limits because if they were not in the office for lengthy periods, we might find a delegate (senator or representative) who is doing for the people.

    4) healthcare – we truly need a plan but not one that breaks the bank. we everyone to help contribute to help themselves, but then again, we have to understand everyone’s needs. some folks don’t believe in medical care from doctors due to religious beliefs and those folks should not be taxed/fined for not getting insurance.

    5) cut spending in gov’t, i am all for this, but how many times do you hear that a congressman wants a hearing for non-threatning issues and costs the taxpayers thousands of dollars; for example steroids in baseball. how was that a national crisis? we are finally down to one war vs two.

    6) you talk about rights, has anyone read the constitution and forgot about the preamble to rights? we all have a right to purchase a house, but you have to be able to afford one. remember, it states in pursuit of happiness! affording one on your salary is the key! if the bank is the one making a mistake, then it’s not your fault but the banks fault and they should have to pay out of their own pockets for any mistakes.. afterall, your not the expert on finances, where you expect a bank to be.

so in conclusion, blame the voters for keeping folks in office who say a big story but only carry a little stick. remember that each congressman has only 1 vote but that vote is supposed to represent the people and not their individual needs. you should not have to hear only prior to the election – what am i doing for you or that the other person only did this because of this. that one does not fly because it takes more than one vote to pass a piece of legislation. let’s get back to the american people what they deserve!

Cassandra was apparently brainwashed by some professor of Keysian Economics who convinced her that this government can spend its way to prosperity. Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead is their motto. Unfortunately for her, most clear thinking Americans don’t feel this is the way to go. It has never worked in the history of the world, but they think it will work. Thank God for the TEA Party who started the movement to wake up America from the Progressive nightmare in time to vote many of these idiots out of power. Cass, keep repeating your mantra but the facts are these. There were huge changes in governorships and state legislatures that favor the Rs as this is a redistricting year due to the Census. That means, these Govs and Leg will draw the maps to favor Rs. Also, 2 years from now, there will be 36 Senate seats up for re-election, 20 or so Dems from now R states will be up, including Manchon from West VA who is serving out the last two year of Byrd’s term.

The end result of this is that the effects of this election will likely last 10 years or more.

The Pres knows this and, if he is pragmatic, he will be forced to compromise with the Rs since he must know that Dems with the “at risk” Senate seats are not going to walk the plank and face 2012.

I predict that this Pres will hold to his ideology as he is a true believer and let the chips fall where they may. He has that history as he sacrificed the Blue Dogs and others to get his “once in a lifetime” hcare rammed down our throats.

Take heart though, there will be gridlock but some Dems will move over, especially on the tax cuts. The Pres hinted he might consider compromise on this but he knows that will mean he has to admit that “rich people” do create jobs. That will make him sick, since he feeds his progressive base with a damn the rich rhetoric. I imagine that he will make the under $250,000 tax cuts permanent and agree to only a 2 year extension of those “rich” tax cuts. He will need that issue in 2 years to gin up the base to once again, hate the rich and their Republican handmaidens. Please print this and pull it out in 2012.

I just wanted to soften the blow for you while disabusing you of the notion that you can count on a flip. . That will occur only when a party egregiously offends the public’s will. In ths case, the only way that might occur is if the Rs go back to their old spending habits. However, I think the may have finally learned their lesson. If they don’t, the possibility of a flip goes from remote to possible. The gist of all of this is that this election was a sea change and not just a trifling election that can be undone easily.

if the so-called american people are tired of the rhetoric that is going on and not taking personal responsibility of their own votes, when in fact they should be voting for the people instead of their own pockets, we still have the same lame duck congressman in office who been there for years. this is why we need term limits!

why should any congressman be in office pass the mandatory retirement age? if they have been in office for more than 40 yrs, in most cases they are over 70 and are no longer in true touch with the people and for the people.

Now a Hcane is bearing down on 1,000,000 people who are still living under blue tarps. All of this was predicable and ignored by the Pres and the UN. Now we are all about to be “shocked” by the loss of life. This is a prime example of a failure to lead and should be front page news. Alas, the media will give this event short shrift. It is a Katrina type event as more people will lose their lives than in Katrina but the Pres and the UN will get a pass.

Someone please explain to me why the UN continues to exist. If they can’t address this kind of predictable human tragedy and take significant steps to avoid the disaster, what possible use is there for this organization comprised maingly of thugs, despots, dictators, potentates and rouges.

We are looked on the save the planet from all catastrophes and foot the bill for them. They know that the US is the most generous people in the world and will rush to help any country in need so they sit back and watch, meanwhile undermining our efforts for peace and letting Iran get away with murder. the challenge will be that with all the changes, how will the new congress help the american people?

spending money, you complain that we are spending so much for the presidents trip and yet, i don’t here anyone complain that we now have sent a ship to haiti because of hurricane getting ready to hit. it costs a lot of money to move ships and personnel (i know, used be a navy vet for 13 yrs). i know we are humanitarian, but everytime we move ships, that costs has to be absorbed somewhere and that includes into the national debt!

Some people have said that Obama is the modern day Nero. He is over in India doing the Mumbai jive while this country is going to pot. Does anyone believe the line that he is going to create 54,000 jobs with the agreements he is doing with India? Perhaps 54,000 jobs for them, but not us. We are already outsourcing a lot of jobs to them in the medical/technology field. Perhaps they will be hired to monitor Obamacare as well.

Of course he hasn’t generated any job as a result of flying to India. He can’t generate a job in the US and has created the worst anti business climate in history here. If he did create a job there, it’s because he’s rolling cap and trade into EPA regulation to boon countries like his homeland of Indonesia. With the ego smashing he received on November 2, he had to re-invent himself as the King via this proposterous all eyes of the world on Obama insanity. He actually gets scarier every day.

Sarah…..you are exactly right with your analysis of LIbs hating Bush but they’re not sure why. I can give you a specific laundry list of Obama policies, ideologies and regulations to back up why I dislike his leadership. Dems can’t do the opposite. They bask in ignorance and touchy feely stuff.

    Patriot,

They sent our manufactuering jobs to china, while we let them manipulate their currency, because we needed to borrow money from them. Now we are sending our service sector jobs to India, Will we be borrowing from India when the Chinese decide not to buy our bonds.

Why do you think that we had to buy back our own 600 billion of bonds last week. Could it have been that the Chinese said no? What happens then….. Buy Gold

Maybe Glen Beck is not so off base after all.

If some of these Progressive Liberals would read and learn some history, they would find out that monitizing our debt by printing more money is one of the worst things that can be done. Good examples abound. Take the Weimar Republic in Germany after WW1. It took a wheel barrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread. This led to the rise of Hitler, by the way and we know how that ended up. I think China is turning off the spigot on our debt because they realize we may not be good for it in the long run.

If what you say comes true, you better get good a fishing, hunting and growing vegtables and buy alot of Gold. You are going to need it!

I hear the printing presses humming!

    Scary stuff huh…

I guess that is when the Amero is put into circulation. Google it as well as 9 trillion missing from the Federal Reserve. This will wake you up if not already.

We still have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. We stopped Obama in his tracks on the “agenda”. We have a lot of work to do with Congress to hold their feet to the fire to stop the excessive spending and reverse the damage already done. People with values and principles will win the day in the end. A new day is dawning in this country.
