Job Bias Complaints Set Record in 2010

    Age discrimination is rampant. Hard to prove, but rampant. Most of my friends in the industry are now laid off for at least a year. Ages range from 50 to 64. With hundreds of years of experience amongst us, we are hopeful that 2011 will bring employers to their senses and hire a seasoned pro.

    I could not agree with you more. I too have a few friends who are in the same age group who are having a very difficult time finding employment. Gender difference is also rampant. Men still get paid a higher wage then women do for doing the same exact job. It can be proved, but you risk your employment by taking on corporate-America.

    Sadly enough this is true. and furthermore is compounded by the use of computer grading of resume’s. It seems as if the program developers have built in filters that recognize elements that give away age by identifying experience levels that would only be possible with advanced age enlightenment. Then the automatic response letters fly out stating they hired someone who better fit their demographic.

    A lot of these allegations are bogus, but more than a few are legitimate. If you look up Nationwide Mutual and/or Nationwide Insurance company on Google, you will find a significant number of discrimination and retaliation lawsuits against them. (Age, racial, reverse racial and gender) that have rather compelling facts associated with them. Some of this seems to be from bad mangement but others are more likely from good intentions gone wildly off the track (“diversity” initiatives turning into “Nationwide’s Affirmative Action Program” and then reverse discrimination.) Unfortunately, this seems to be rather common in the larger U.S. companies, and at a number of lawfirms. Reverse discrimination will not increase diversity in our companies and country. You have to attract the best, regardless of race, gender, national origin, or sexual orientation, and develop their skills and loyalty. So called intelligent design is illegal and simply won’t work.
