Okay, I think the judge should rule against Toyota, but with this punishment. That Toyota needs to install a camera under the dash pointing at the Gas and Brake pedals. They will need to do this for the next two years of cars the manufacture. So when a Toyota driver accelerates and runs into someone, the other driver can sue the pants off the Toyota driver when it shows they pushed on the gas vs the brake. And if they really didn’t push on the gas, it would be a perfect lawsuit for our government to take on against Toyota. It would be very interesting to see if miraculously no more unintended acceleration on the next two model years of vehicles.

I don’t see why people simply can’t put the shifter in neutral and shut the engine off. Yes people will say you lose you power steering that way and yes you will, but you’ll still be able to steer(unless you are elderly or a weakling). But shutting the enhgine off will stop any further acceleration and the brakes will still work, even if it does take a little more pedal effort and also using the parking brake will help.
I haven’t been following this as closely as others, so I can’t comment on any defective accelerator pedals, but the floor mat situation would totally be Toyota’s fault.
I don’t know if Toyota uses the drive by wire technology that quite a few car manufacturers use, but if they do, then the manufacturer of that device needs to be investigated as well.
Also, how many of these accidents involved distracted or drunk drivers?
Seems that a few years ago when Suzuki got in trouble for the number of accidents involving the Samurai, one reported that 38 accidents involving Samurai’s had a total of three rollovers with one involving a frunk driver and another who was T-boned. I would think that there is no manufacturer defect involved.
We need to worry about more important things like drilling for domestic oil.

I have a 2004 Toyota, and when I first started to drive it, my foot would actually hit both pedals at the same time when I was going from the break pedal to the gas pedal. Which caused my engine to rev up, but since I was also on the break, my car did not accelerate. I did get used to the pedals being closer together then my old vehicle as this only happed maybe 3 times that I can remember. I do find it interesting though..
