I don’t get it. Modern football players are paid to have head-on collisions with (relatively) immovable objects. Some are paid very well to do something they love. When playing in a game and getting injured, what besides sheer adrenalin “forces” the player to ignore his own condition and charge back on at the coaches pleadings? Is there a sideline firing squad aiming at anyone who retreats?

Do the players lack the thought process to decide for themselves what may be a dangerous return to play? Perhaps the NFL should consider the cost of potential future lawsuits when determining the salary offers made to these players.

All Football player know the that playing a full contact sport will lead to injuries. The player’s have ignored their injuries, and still played anyway. Besides these are the same players that will go on strike for more Millions for thier wallets. Football players during thier playing days have access to the very best Doctors at the team’s expense. These player are finding out what we in the rest of the world live like everyday. I’m tired of professional sports player’s crying that they now have to pay for health realted issues that we all pay with our samll paychecks.

Football is one of the most dangerous sports in existence even with all the protective gear they wear. Helmuts are 100% better than they were 20 years ago. However, the players are so big and fast and the collisions are so violent, it is a wonder they aren’t carried off on stretchers more than they are. These men all knew that the next play might be their last one when they signed the contract. The NFL does have a good pension and benefits program for former players. O J Simpson has been living on his for a long time. I wonder how much will be in the bank when he gets out of prison.

I wonder if the Romans stopped their arena games with gladiators and Christian over sport injury lawsuits? Unlike Roman times I believe football is a voluntary sport where the professionals are well paid and aware of the dangers – just like smoking cigarettes, the problems are very evident but they still willingly participate.

Perhaps they ran out of Gladiators after Spartacus left the building. He managed to take out a lot of Roman soldiers while he was at it. This led to the decline of the Roman Empire. Football players start out early in grade school, high school, college and then make themselves available in the draft to play for big bucks. Only 1 in a thousand achieve stardom and they know the risks. The lawsuits should be dismissed.

High risk, high pay! They know the odds going into the game. Shame on them! I hope they get nothing and have to pay all court costs associated with these frivilous lawsuits!
