It’s deja vu. When I was working for a well known Japanese vehicle manufacturer in the late 70’s we had a small coupe that had an EPA mpg rating of over 50 mpg. We protested to the EPA that there was no way the car would deliver that kind of mileage in real life and that the EPA estimates were rubbish. The feds told us we HAD to use their figures in our advertising. One of my responsibilities at that time was fielding customer complaints and trying to head off litigation.

The federal government made us deceive the public and we as the evil manufacturer were castigated as evil liars.

I hope I live long enough to see all branches of government get the heck out of things they know nothing about.

Sadly, most class action settlements like this one seem to be all about getting a big payday to the class attorneys rather than a real benefit to the rank and file class members.
