Can anyone name one time, just one time, when realignment didn’t mean employees were not going to lose their jobs ? Guess the jobless claims will be going up for the next couple of months. My guess is medical bennies are next to be cut for the sake of profit.
Just wait until the first days in Nov. a week before the election when the WARN notices come out for Jan 2013(Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act 60 day notice). How many more people will get laid off just before the election ? This past Feb. State Farm just let go of 500 people in NJ alone. No, I didn’t work for them, I just keep track of these things.
So are the new business models working to increase profits or is it business as usual, just cut the workforce to show a better bottomline ?
Your comments suggest that you believe that it’s appropriate for the Liberty Mutual leadership team to negatively impact employee medical benefits just because its legal. Instead of questioning government policy you should wonder how after Ted Kelley stepped down as CEO, why people now see the current leadership team as lacking moral fortitude. As an example, when Ted was CEO, he sent clear guidance on the topic of outsourcing; just because it’s legal dosen’t mean we (Liberty Mutal) should do it. If you have issue with government policy, you should find a way to do it without degrading a management team. Finally it is not Obama, it’s President Obama; and don’t forget it!
So I ask you who directed all the layoffs from 2008-2011 but made sure he was paid $50,000,000 a year ? How many of those workers were within three years of early retirement ? Further, how many of those workers who accepted Liberty’s severance package were not told that come pension time they would not be offered retiree medical plan because they would be listed a “terminated”. While we may understand that they were separated from the company, do you really think the avg claim rep, customer service rep, or line Supervisor understood that? They only understood they needed money coming in. Is that really the responsible thing to do, as Mr. Kelly’s marketing campaign of “Responsibility” suggests Liberty Mutual as company does ?
He was not paid $50mm a year, he was paid $50mm in one year from prior bonus years. I am not advocating this is ok or not ok but just stating the facts.

Anon – you obviously don’t see the writing on the wall. They are going to do away with the regional company brands. It is all going to be Liberty Mutual Commercial Insurance. Gone will be the “regional” focus…..not that Lady Liberty wasn’t doing a good job of changing that anyway.
I love how insurance co’s reorganize, put out press releases about how this is going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, “align – business partners – refocus – core business – increase profitability” and then they rotate everything up again about as frequently as one changes their tires.
Problem is, you’ll find the deadwood are those have worked there for more than 15 yrs. Are you going to tell me all those years they were working, getting good reviews, all of a sudden they didn’t know how to do their Job
I totally disagree with your comment Mike. I have worked in the Industry for 12 year’s and started from the bottom and worked my way up in a huge insurance company. My company also did a HUGE realignment to make change and get rid of the OLD deadwood.
In the process they terminated Managers that were hand given there jobs by there friends who were either Directors or Vice-Presidents of there departments. How am I suppose to respect my manager when I know more then her and she always has to research and ask around for the answer. Oh WAIT! and she had 16 year’s on the job.
So, in the process of the realignment head’s rolled from the TOP and all the way down to directors, managers, claims adjusters and cusotmer service rep’s.
Our Company since then has grown with a proactive approach.
I think this is a good change. Those of us stuck with the Regional companies because volume wouldn’t let us have Middle Market after they made it available to agents are glad the full power of Liberty is available. Regional carriers sucked at multi state exposures and international exposures that Middle Market could have handled but wouldn’t.
Well I guess it was time. They haven’t reorganized in at least two years. I wonder what they want to be when they grow up?
