This is inexcusable. A pilot should always perform a pre-flight check before taking off. This accident is pilot error, and no electronic devices should be used while operating any type vehicle. This pilot should lose his license to fly, for his lack of proper judgement. You always perform a pre-flight check when flying any type of aircraft.

I guess you missed the part where the pilot and 3 others died in the crash.

I guess they could have stuck the license in the casket with him. I think Social Media, cell phone use which includes the texting is the most distracting activity one can do and people continue to drive and in this case fly while trying to do it. One of my greatest peeves is to try to have a face to face conversation with one of these addicts and have them paying more attention to their phone than me. If it is a business meeting, I politely ask them to turn it off while we discuss business. Most of these people don’t even think it is rude to be looking at their phone while talking to someone else. There needs to be severe penalties for driving or flying while texting. I wonder what the pilot’s girlfriend thought to suddenly not get a response from her text.

I agree that texting is a huge distraction and it should not be done while driving, flying, or even walking for that matter. But to say that the accident was caused by texting is stupid. He had not sent or received any text messages in the prior 11 minutes before the accident. Now, that does not mean he was not distracted and I am sure low fuel lights and whistles etc sounding while operating a helicopter would have probably distracted him too. Had he done the pre flight check it would not have been an issue. I just disagree on saying texting was the “CAUSE” of this accident.
