Just a numbers game. What’s easier, pay $250mil or more to fix a rare occurrence by moving thousands of fuel tanks, OR pay around 5-10 family’s a $1-5mil settlement? It’s unfortunate but I’m sure that’s how Chrysler is looking at it.

How does NHTSA figure that Chrysler is supposed to fix a problem if they don’t recommend a fix?

Why is this an issue now? Those Grand Cherokee Laredos from 1993 to whatever it was were and still are immensely popular.

Wouldn’t it have been more effective to bring this up before Chrysler did the same thing on a different model?

Why would Chrysler pay to recall those jeeps. They all pre-date Chrysler’s 2009 bankruptcy. Didn’t Chrysler get relief from product liability claims on “old Chrysler” products when it emerged from bankruptcy?

I will never own anything “Jeep” ever again! I value my life too much. The people driving those vehicles aren’t even at fault when some other driver rear ends them causing the car to start on fire and kill them. I’d bet the main reason they are fighting the recall is because there is no fix. They designed the whole car around where the fuel tank is currently sitting.

I have 3 small children that ride in the backseat of my Jeep. If anything happens to them, you best believe I will have someones neck. If I had known about this problem I would have never bought this Jeep and because I have 3 kids, I am on a fixed income and can not afford to just go buy a new vehicle. They need to do something, so our lives are not in danger. I don’t care if it costs them a lot of money to fix it, people lives are on the line, especially those of youngsters that are riding in the most dangerous position!

@Michelle – First, it has to be established that the Jeeps are as dangerous as NHTSA and Clarence Ditlow have claimed. NHTSA may say their data shows that there is a dangerous design defect, but what if Chrysler can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that these Jeeps are safe?

I communicated with Chrysler on their facebook regarding this matter, since I own a 2003 Jeep Liberty. They were very insulting and put me down by even asking them. They requested that I read their three page explanation to NHTSA, which I already had done. They attomatically called me ignorant. Well, that’s the last I will do business with them. I also own a Dodge…that won’t happen again either. I was going to pass on my cars to my grandchildren..that won’t happen! Chrysler does not care about their customers or back up the quality and safety of their cars…just their pocket book!

I am mother of 2 small children, one of which is a special needs child. They ride in the back sea of my jeep all the time. This lack of recall is a problem for me! If anything was to happen to my children because of this problem the company doesn’t want to fix, then you best believe I will be holding someone liable. I will also have a lot of people in my corner due to a special needs child being involved! I am a mom first and want my kids to be safe.

Waiting to see if chrysler will recall my 2002 Jeep Liberty. I have a 9 month old daughter that sits in the back. I will not let her in my car anymore we now take my wives honda crv. Ive been looking at the new 2014 Jeep Grand cherokee, if they do not recall them I will be looking at other auto makers. Lets make good P.R Chrysler.
