These kids cannot go to the bathroom without their cells. Constant texts, phone calls, downloading apps are the norm. They see no problem texting while driving and are much like drug addicts thinking they can handle it.
Libby, I see your point, but if that is the case, then they need to raise the minimum age to obtain a drivers’ license. If you can knowlingly apply, pass an exam, and pay the fee to obtain a license, that kind of throws the whole, “kids’ brains aren’t fully developed” argument.
Kids brains aren’t developed when it comes to judgement and making good choices. That’s why they aren’t allowed to vote, sign contracts, or buy booze. I’m not against raising the age limit for a license. The streets would be alot safer.

There is a case going on here regarding this. A young teen is being charged with manslauter (forgive me, I can’t recall the specifics) because she failed to yield or something and caused an accident. Her boyfriend died in the accident and her friend was critically injured (to what extent, I don’t know). The community is divided and there has even been a petition going around asking the prosecutor to drop the manslauter charges, but he says he needs to make an example of her. (I wasn’t trying to prove any point with this comment, just thought it might be interesting to discuss an actual case.) Here is something more specific about the case:

You mean I have to pay attention to my driving?? No one ever told me that!!!!
I think they might have put that in the new Drivers Ed courses for what it is worth. Kids don’t seem to have much common sense anymore.
Since when do “kids” have common sense? Their brains aren’t fully developed for crying out loud.
Even National Geographic had an article about it, but they don’t have to try to raise “stupid” to an art form.

Vehicular homicide is a misdemeanor in Nebraska?
