OK Libby, one well-run carrier had a good year due to better weather. The real unemployment rate (including those who have stopped looking) is a different matter. Real “new business” in our neck of the woods (MA) is almost non-existent. Duval Patrick has ruined this state with his tax and spend agenda including payment of 2 Billion a year going to illegals and their EBT cards. Meanwhile, our employees haven’t had a raise in 4 years. Don’t forget to vote of November 3rd.
I will be voting, don’t worry about that! And it’s not just one well-run carrier. Almost all carriers have been posting record profits for the last year.
The Dow is at an all-time high and unemployment is at 5.9%. The reason there are no jobs isn’t because companies aren’t making money. It’s because companies aren’t spending money. They’ve gotten the workforce to the leanest in their history with most people just happy to have a job. Do more for less. Put more money in their pockets. Trickle down my ass.
@Libby-we are in a funny place. Unemployment is low officially, but many folks have stopped looking and many folks who have found work have not been able to work full time or their new pay is at or is lower than they were able to find previously. I think too that many companies are staying cautious in terms of investing in staff too becuase this recovery is so spotty and uneven-it just doesn’t feel strong enough to invest in new plant and equipment which normally happens in a recovery-its not happening now.
The dow is high simply because its the best place to park money right now in an era where there aren’t too many other choices-interest rates are so low that there aren’t too many places where you can earn a decent return.
How do some of you people even get out of bed every day?
Can’t we just celebrate some good news without finding something else negative?
You can say what you want, but some of you seem to fear that if the economy is actually improving, your end-of-the-world predictions would be proven wrong. God forbid that the economy does not fall into oblivion.
More outstanding profits! Where’s that doom and gloom economic forecast now, Agent?

Are you happy Libby? You sound angry?
Yes, I’m happy, but there are things that make me angry. Are you saying you don’t get angry?
