Part of the solution is for the employer to put a limit on the number of alcoholic beverages which can be expensed on an expense account per day. (For example, 2). Some will keep drinking on their own nickel, but not all will. The liquor helps reduce judgment which assists with the promiscuity piece. Not a total solution, but certainly can’t hurt.
Hard to explain that bar bill on the company credit card, huh! When a person has been binge drinking, how good are they the next morning at a company meeting? Have clients been lost because of this behavior? How about oversleeping when an important meeting is being held?
Who would dislike this post… I totally agree, how effective can one be at a client meeting after binge drinking. I’ve had the opportunity to see this behavior first hand and it is not good for business.
Libby- this would be a good one to explain to all of us how you handle yourself with this challenge – my friend says the only time he has a drinking problem is when he doesn’t have one…..
All I can say is “dangerous” – binge drinking and picking up strangers…… my employer will allow one drink when i am taking others out for business dinner. But if I am driving, I just don’t want to take a chance on even one drink – but that is me

I’ve travelled quite a bit and none of my employers paid for any of my alcohol. I’m jealous that some companies pay for it.
And absolutely NO Tequila allowed!
Sheesh – who has the energy for that! I’m so busy when I travel for business all I want to do is sleep at the end of my day.
