I like some of the safety features of my new car, but find the owners manual difficult to understand, hard to find info that I am looking for etc. These cars are often too advanced to understand the nuances. The salesman spending 15 minutes with the customer explaining features is quickly lost with the average customer.

What kind of car do you have, Agent? My vehicle’s technology package (includes front & side & rear & 360 degree cameras, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, in-dash navigation system, satellite radio, etc.) was very simple to understand and the salesman spent a grand total of ZERO minutes going over that with me before I drove off the lot.

Different strokes for different folks or maybe the type of car has a lot to do with how easy the systems are to use? My vehicle is a Nissan – who manufactured your car?

It must be nice to be brilliant Rosenblatt and need no instructions from your dealer on several dozen gadgets, features on the car. What kind of Dealer let’s a customer off the lot with ZERO minutes going over anything on the operation and safety features and where everything is? So all you had to do was sign on the dotted line, here are your keys, good luck! I do have all the things you listed and I did go online to learn the rest. I am not going to tell you what I have and let you criticize my choice. I will say it is a very nice mid sized SUV and it has all the bells and whistles. It is a good thing you don’t have one of those clean diesel VW’s. Think about the resale value and the prospects of trying to sell them for a dealer. Nissan is fine. Personally, I think Toyota has a better reputation among the Japanese makes for dependability.

I’m not asking what car you have so I can criticize you, Mr. Always On The Defensive – I asked because, like I said maybe the type of car has a lot to do with how easy the systems are to use.

Let me rephrase the question – is your vehicle a Nissan or made by another company? You don’t have to tell me what car you have, just let me know if it’s a Nissan or something else.

The kind of ‘Dealer [that] let’s [sic] a customer off the lot with ZERO minutes going over anything’ is known as a dealer who listens to their customer. He asked if I wanted him to show me and I said no thanks, I’m very capable of learning on my own.

It doesn’t take a genus to use a car or understand a new device. Any body who can’t figure it out is just plain stupid.

It rarely takes a genius to drive a car, yet many idiots drives cars – or people simply fail to pay attention, while drive.

Sometimes it takes a competent driver to get out of a bad situation. Sometimes a brilliant driver will avoid the situation, before it becomes a danger to the vehicle or the driver or the passengers.

In Soviet Russia, car drives you!

            Why is the car “stupid”?
There are bad drivers everywhere. The regulations, government and manufacturers are just making the machine more complex and that is bad for driving!

EVEN if you do figure out the car (that is ‘stupid’), what happens when these safety systems fail? Or worse, what happens when these safety system fail to work as intended (or imagined)???

Sounds like a recipe for disaster and you have to pay more for that junk. How about simply make the car drivable – learn your blind spots and be attentive while driving.

You can YouTube instruction videos in just about anything these days. Try finding your car and instructions there. Sometimes it is easier to see it demonstrated than to read or hear the instructions.

Well said, “agent”. I am and have been an agent for many decades, and agree with your comments after having much experience trying to explain technical stuff o average people. Rosenblatt, if you really need these “improvements”, maybe you shouldn’t be driving – same for others who are of your opinions. These things are just more distractions for the average driver, and will lead to cars weaving and slowing or other maneuvers that will cause more accidents than they avoid.

^^^ It appears agent is using a sock puppet to agree with himself. Rosenblatt made no mention being in “need” of any techno gadgets, he said they are simple to understand, and they are.

All is not dire for agent and his sock, however. Buick makes dependable transportation for our aging senior population, just remember to synch up your Jitterbug to the car’s Bluetooth infotainment system so you can have a pleasant hands-free conversation with the grandkids while heading to Denny’s for the early bird special.

Hey Fair, Rosenblatt spent a whole paragraph bragging on what he had on his car. He also pointed out that the Dealer spent no time explaining any of them.

By the way, Buick is one of those Government Motors cars. How many recalls has GM had now? How many people have died with the ignition switch problem? My guess is that you don’t own a car and have to ride the subway or bus for your transportation needs. Enjoy your latte’ at Starbucks.

          Isn’t the curmudgeon adorable, folks?

          For the record:

2015 VW GTI (the commuter car)
2002 Saab Viggen (that’s the insanely fast one)
1978 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce (my favorite, weekends only)

And I brew my own joe at home, buying beans from local roasters.

Proving once again that your guesses and assumptions are consistently off the mark, agent. As Ron suggested, get a sense of humor. Please.

You sure do sound a lot like agent, FSCR. Regardless, the features I talked about came standard on the class of vehicle I purchased and not because I needed them and sought them out.

I simply brought up what I had due to Agent’s original post wherein he said ‘I like some of the safety features of my new car…difficult to understand…to find” as I had a completely opposite experience than him.

    Agent,

And you spent part of a sentence bragging that you have the same features. So what?

Some people just need more instruction than others regarding the features of their new vehicle.

Fair Playing Field only referenced Buick because it is considered an old person’s vehicle. No need to get all political. Get a sense of humor, please.

The confused drivers would be the idiots who need some junk computer to drive for them. Learn how to drive, put the phone down & focus on the road like you are supposed to & this nonsense would not be needed. Time to stop coddling these young wusses, make them take responsibility for their own actions, and stop counting on something else to do it all for you. Useless bunch of bums.

      I totally agree.

Maybe some day those “autonomous machines” will be safe to drive us. Maybe we need to go back to the horse and buggy. A good horse knows the way! Probably way smarter than any AI and horses are mostly water proof and some can swim really well.

How about the confused “governments” and confused manufacturers … sometimes these confused features just cause more problems.

How about people learn to drive?

If you do not want to drive, call a cab, Uber, Lyft, public transport (yikes!) or maybe those “self driving” machines will arrive in a few years.

Amazing how we’re forced to pay more money for safety features that idiots designed and that we’d prefer not to have! Our world has gone crazy!!
