        Technically no – Sandy was a post-tropical storm when it made landfall in the US. It was dubbed Superstorm Sandy instead of Hurricane Sandy due to that technicality.

            you recall incorrectly. first, the storm came from the south – if anything, it would be considered a southern clipper, not a northern clipper. anyway, is was not a clipper system. when it made landfall in the US it was just a post-tropical cyclone with hurricane force winds. rosenblatt was correct

          sandy started in the tropics, so it could not have been a nor’easter or a northern clipper, as both of those terms indicate a storm that began in the north. you are still wrong and rosenblatt is still right – sandy was a post-tropical storm with hurricane force winds when it made landfall in the US.

      This is bullshit rhetoric. Sandy was a hurricane, but was no longer classified that at landfall. This is relevant in insurance, because many deductibles have provisions that include hurricanes, but not post-tropical storms; however for bullshit, conspiracy theory, climate change denial it is irrelevant. There hurricane force winds, as well as damage from the storm while it was still officially classified as a hurricane, so as far as insurance is concerned it could be argued for some on the coast that their damage was in fact by a hurricane, and hurricane deductibles apply. Again though, completely irrelevant when it comes to conspiracy theories.

      On top of that, it is unlikely a tropical storm classified as a hurricane would still be a “hurricane” when it landed that far north, but the outcome and causes are the same. This moronic line of denialism also ignores increased hurricane activity which has occurred around the world, and have not made landfall largely due to random chance.

            Lord Christopher Monckton is not a climate change expert, is not even a scientist, and has already been exposed as a liar and a crackpot, even by other climate change deniers!

            CRACKPOT – ‘Monckton was described by fellow skeptic James Delingpole as “another hatchet job”‘

            CRACKPOT – Back in the 80s he said he wanted every member of the population to be blood-tested every month for AIDS, and said if someone tested positive to isolate them compulsorily, immediately, and permanently.

            LIAR – In 2014, he reported that homosexuals had an average of 500-1,000 partners in their lifetime, and that some had as many as 20,000

            LIAR – ‘In 2006 he referred to himself as “a member of the Upper House of the United Kingdom legislature” in a letter to US Senators, and has said he was “a member of the Upper House but without the right to sit or vote.” The House of Lords authorities have said Monckton is not and never has been a member and that there is no such thing as a non-voting or honorary member of the House. In July 2011 the House of Lords took the “unprecedented step” of publishing online a cease and desist letter to Monckton from the Clerk of the Parliaments, which concluded, “I am publishing this letter on the parliamentary website so that anybody who wishes to check whether you are a Member of the House of Lords can view this official confirmation that you are not.”‘

            I am sorry, but I cannot believe a word that guy says about anything. His track record of speaking the truth is atrocious.

            Always Amazed, you have no idea what you are talking about. Look at any chart of average world temperatures. The idiot you cite has been debunked so often, and so thoroughly an actual thinking person would be embarrassed to cite him. Here is one simple one. He cherry-picks by choosing one extremely hot year. If you go back one year further, you have a string of historically warm years, but he, and you, do not do that, because you are ideological frauds. Look at the chart under the section of the fraud you mention:

            http://billmoyers.com/2014/05/16/eight-pseudo-scientific-climate-claims-debunked-by-real-scientists/

            This year is shaping up to be by far the warmest year on record. Of course you will explain that away like you did when you idiots said Hurricane Sandy doesn’t count, because it started just a little too far south, as if that matters, or as if landfall over a few years in a specific region is an accurate, coherent, or logical measure of the number of hurricanes or the temperature worldwide long-term.

I wonder how many of our leftist bloggers still use their BBQ pits to cook their free range chicken and Tofu. By the way, the light bulbs are now the Obama bulbs which cost a whole lot more and if they ever break, the chemicals in them are very harmful.

        If you bought one Obama bulb for $20 and it lasts 20 years, that’s cheaper than buying an old bulb for $5 that you have to replace every 5 years. And we haven’t even talked about the energy savings you’d get from the Obama bulb over the old school ones too.

        The Obama bulb is more expensive when initially purchased, I agree, but it’s a cheaper solution over the long run.

        FYI — “CFLs typically contain from three to five milligrams of mercury—about one hundredth of the mercury content of the older [bulbs]…

        “Researchers have found that…even if left unattended for 24 hours, a broken bulb will release from 0.04 to 0.7 milligrams of mercury….

        “The researchers found that it would take weeks for the amount of mercury vapor in the room to reach levels that would be hazardous to a child”

          math fail acknowledged and revised here:

          Obama bulb = $20 purchase & lasts for 20 years
          Obama bulb cost per year = $1

          Regular bulb = $5 purchase & last for 4 years
          Regular bulb cost per year = $1.25

          Regardless of the #s used, the point is the same: Obama bulbs cost more than the old school bulbs up front, but the Obama bulbs are cheaper over the long-term

    Literally the entire scientific community attributes at most 30% of all climate change to human impact. ~~~~~~~~~~~~

            Empirical measurements of the Earth’s heat content show the planet is still accumulating heat and global warming is still happening. Surface temperatures can show short-term cooling when heat is exchanged between the atmosphere and the ocean, which has a much greater heat capacity than the air.

            ~~~~~~~~~
            “There was definitely a slowdown in warming from around 2000-2012 centered in the Pacific, but leading to a slowing of warming over the Northern Hemisphere,” said Mann. That local event barely impacted the global mean temperature at the time.
            “There certainly is variability from year to year, and one can find periods in the record where there are small changes,” but over the long term, the world is still warming at an alarming rate, Karl said.
            AA – I have tried explaining this to Agent and he never seems to get it. Let me ask you a question as it relates to your ice cap comment.
            As you know, there are two poles on our planet and therefore two places where polar ice caps exist.
            (I’m making up these numbers, but bear with me) If the antarctic ice cap increased from 200km to 400km over the past 50 years and the arctic ice cap decreased from 400km to 100km over the past 50 years – would you agree that polar ice caps as a whole have decreased by 100km?
            My point is simple: if the antarctic ice cap has increased by a lower amount than the arctic ice cap has decreased, you can’t say the ice caps as a whole are increasing in size.
            If you want, check out this graph for a visual of the point I’m making. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2015/05/27/climate-skeptics-think-you-shouldnt-worry-about-melting-polar-ice-heres-why-theyre-wrong/
Regardless of what is causing the changes, we should do everything within our power to keep the planet habitable for our human ancestors.
The last deal Obama made with China had them start addressing pollution issues in 2030 while Obama promised to cut by 25% by 2020. Is that a fair deal or is it another example of Obama leading from behind?
            I don’t know why you’re upset – I simply took a page out of the “how to post on IJ like Agent does” book. You asked a reasonable and direct question, so I ignored it and wrote whatever I wanted to. That’s how you respond to my questions, so I’m just treating you the way you treat others, albeit with less personal attacks and rhetoric.
      More, in this information age, it is now accepted by all officials to send and receive emails. We have seen many scandals erupt from the use of them. Remember the IRS, Lois Lerner. When a high level public official like the Secretary of State and her peons were told to use the official government server for business and they disregard that completely, use their own unsecure server 30,000 or more times, then try to have it scrubbed and hide the info from investigators, there is something terribly wrong with that picture. Hilliary is as nasty as they come.
    Also, Africa has lost most of its forest due to the slaughter of the beautiful Elephants who are the keepers of the forests. They will be extinct in our lifetime along with the rhinos. The forest produce the air that we breath. There was more CO2 on this planet long before man ever made his appearance.
    Reading these comments was good for a laugh as usual. Lefties preaching climate change while ignoring anything contradictory to their “beliefs” A belief is NOT evidence.
    The fact that the solution to this “problem” will involve taxes, tells you all you need to know about it. I love how we’re being brainwashed to believe we should cut our carbon footprint by the very same people flying around in private jets, burning more fuel in one trip than most of us use in a year! Taxes…that’ll fix it..just like all the other problems the govt created, then later fixed through higher taxes. I’m sure they’ll be “temporary” too, until they’re permanent.
    It’s amazing (sad really) that posters such as “agent” are naïve enough to fall for this narrative. Hey Agent, do you have a “ready for Hillary” or “feel the bern” bumper sticker on your prius? LOL
        Rosenblatt, I recommend that you not play the lottery at all. Do you not realize the odds of winning are astronomical? I hope you don’t play in Illinois. Their latest scandal is that they can’t pay off anything more than $600 since they seem to have an ongoing budget crisis brought on by their Progressive long term Democratic leadership in the legislature. No wonder FFA moved to Wisconsin.
          Rosenblatt, I appreciate your rational approach to most things, but I am not sure why you continue to bang your head on the desk in trying to get Agent to agree that he did or did not say something. Ask the question of him once – chances are good that if he responds, he won’t answer the question but deflect. Don’t make yourself look small by ‘beating the dead horse’. We already have enough of that from Agent. Please take this in the spirit intended – I’m on your side.
I don’t believe anyone should be attacking others on this blog, but your commentary typically stands out as the most angry, negative, deflective, and labeling. My thoughts on your commentary and actions are not political in nature at all – I am not a Progressive Leftist, etc. – I just find your posts some of the most hateful on this blog.     This article is vindicated by the facts. The most powerful hurricane we’ve ever recorded is poised to devastate Mexico. The 2nd strongest typhoon ever recorded wrecked the Philippines just 2 years ago. If you can’t see that the storms are getting more intense and the interval between major storms is decreasing, then you just aren’t paying attention.
