These big health insurers have been in bed with Obama from the first. They were told they would not be left to fail. Big rate increases will be allowed because they can. Where else is the consumer to go? Hey, it is great that consumers have much bigger deductibles, much more out of pocket expense than before.
Not only bigger deductibles and co-pays, I have to laugh when the “powers that be” keep saying how “affordable” it is for lower income people. They keep plugging the Bronze plans. Well the Bronze plans only pay 50% of the bill after meeting deductibles, etc. While that lower income person may get the government subsidies to assist with the payment, that person is still left with 50% of the bill. Additionally if that person is trying to get ahead, and makes more money than he/she projects for the coming year, the subsidy will either become smaller or may generate a tax bill at the end of the year. Talk about making insurance difficult for struggling people!
The last person (carrier) standing gets to dictate the terms and premium charged. What an opportunity!
You have to appreciate the honesty of United Health in saying “it expects a better performance from its exchange business next year, partially due to double-digit price hikes”.
That will look good for top-line growth. I don’t think they will be able to outrun the losses, though.
integrity, how is it a good thing to allow two big mergers of health carriers? Does that not reduce competition and give them license to keep raising the rates making the Unaffordable Care Act even more costly? When a company knows they are basically the only game in town, they tend to take advantage of the situation.
Integrity, did you notice the implosion of the Co-ops that received $2.4 Billion of our dollars to set up? Obamacare hasn’t been kind to them at all despite a big build up. They believed the lie told by our wonderful MIT professor as well.
So suddenly you are all in favor of government restricting the actions of companies? Unsurprisingly this isn’t based on any policy positions, or coherent ideology, but because in situations like this you would personally benefit by having more places to get quotes from. You are only concerned about how you personally think you would be affected by things, not the world, or reality.
UW – I am merely pointing out what will happen. It is not a good thing to have a monopoly. It is not a good thing for the govt to be involved in the first place.
I think Obama’s plan with Obamacare is to destroy the private healthcare market so that the govt “has” to step in and provide coverage.

You’re exactly right, Agent. It is not a good thing. That’s when the Feds step in and say it is a problem and take over.

Agent – did Texas approve the Medicaid Expansion?

integrity matters,
You said, “It is not a good thing to have a monopoly. It is not a good thing for the govt to be involved in the first place.”
Those are contradictory statements. It is the government who stopped monopolies. One of the few things the government has done right.
