I don’t think hackers who try to snag people with ransomware realize that demanding Bitcoin as payment automatically decreases the chance their victims will pay.
It’s often the totally innocent, non-tech-savvy people who are hurt by ransomware. Do the hackers really think a lot of these people even know HOW to get and pay with Bitcoin?
Like all things in life, using bitcoins have far more pros than the con of people whom are willing to pay but cant because they don’t know and cant learn how bitcoins work.
Anonymity on both sides is far more lucrative by my opinion.
