Quote from the article: “Consumers now favor shopping online to schlepping to the mall.” I wish sources were provided for these statements. If this is true why are all the shopping malls packed every time I go there? Why can you not find a parking spot at Costco? Why does IKEA need to hire off-duty cops to direct traffic around their stores? Yes, Amazon and other on-line sellers are finding big markets for their services and goods, but I’m just not yet seeing the death of brick and mortar. I think the reason is that humans are social animals. We enjoy interacting with other humans. I think most of us can only sit at home alone for so long.

How many retail stores are closing? Sears, Kmart, Payless Shoes, ToysRus, etc. Maybe brick and mortar is dying in your area but in mine it is.

There are approximately 3.5 million truck drivers in USA. What happens when they no longer have jobs?

The same thing that happened to the 2.2 million railroad workers in the 1920s. They will eventually move to other industries. It isn’t going to happen overnight, and the median age of truck drivers is like 55. Most of them will be retiring by the time all of this occurs. This will do more to solve the demographic problem of re-filling those seats than take jobs away.

Driverless trucks present a huge danger to everyone on the road. If a sensor fails or the truck is hacked, carnage will ensue and huge lawsuits.
