Markel Corp. has named Julia Chu as chief officer for Global Ceded Reinsurance.
In this newly-created position, Chu will head up ceded reinsurance functions across Markel’s product lines and international insurance operations in 21 countries. She will work with executive management to deploy ceded reinsurance in support of Markel’s business objectives.
Prior to joining Markel, Chu served as managing director, Strategic Advisory, at reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter, which she first joined in 2007. She has also held positions at Aon Re, Milliman USA and Farmers Insurance Group.
Chu reports to Robin Russo, chief underwriting officer, and is based in Markel’s corporate headquarters in Richmond, Virginia.
