“How can Puerto Rico, the failed territory….” I think that’s exactly what Sal was trying to get at — it’s a failed US territory, so why aren’t we helping out more so than we’ve currently done?

The fake news has been peddled from Tramp who has acted like our response has been good for Puerto Rico. He lied about this just like everything else he talks about.

        Agent–

Are you absolutely serious? Puerto Rico is a US TERRITORY, which makes them AMERICAN CITIZENS. They are as American as Guam, the US Virgin Islands, and the Mariana Islands,

Are you on Ambien or truly this ridiculously ignorant?

        Agent–

The distance from Hawaii to California–approximately 2467 miles.
        Distance from Puerto Rico–1150 miles.

Keeping in mind that the world is round, that makes Puerto Rico CLOSER to the US than Hawaii. Now, please…explain to me why we’re not doing more to help AMERICANS???

Has to be fake news. Donald J. Trump, moral and spiritual leader of Evangelical Christianity repeatedly stated that due to GREAT response of HIS administration only 64 people died.

Trump figures that until such time as Puerto Rico gets to vote for presidential elections, they’re second class citizens and what’s more important, the jobless rate and the size of the crowd at his inauguration and how he beat Crooked Hillary and watch out for Animal Lovin’ Nancy Pelosi, or however many people died? Moving on…

Puerto Ricans are brown, speak Spanish, and would never vote for a sheister to be president.

ie: they are not “deserving” of actual help.

Instead, the Trump administration awards nepotism contracts to people who scam their way into millions of dollars for aid that will never be given to the people who need it most. Americans should never die for lack of medical care, clean water, clean healthcare facilities, functional utilities, etc.

Puerto Rico is rich in many resources, and their GDP is $103 Billion, bigger than 14 states! The federal government has treated them like second class citizens for so long, it took an administration treating them like illegal immigrants for us to realize how inhumane the treatment of these Americans has been during this dire time.

People should be up in arms about dozens, if not hundreds of things this administration has done and continues to do to destroy what makes America great, but hand-waving away taking care of Puerto Rico because it is “too far away” or a “failed territory” should be what puts people in the street close to rioting. Trump has killed more people than 9/11. Truly a homegrown terrorist that Timothy McVeigh would be proud of…

Hell, I just looked and Puerto Rico’s economy would put them at #62 on the world economy stage…with a tiny population of only 3.5 million. These people and the island are getting screwed by the federal government.

If there were Trump properties on that island, you can bet the government resources would be flowing…oh wait, he tried and was denied…ok, nevermind

Although I personally feel that helping others in a time of need is a great thing to do, can anyone of you tell me where in the constitution the federal government is required to bail out any local community in a time of need? Our once great nation has been ruined by congress and the white house over the past 20 some years of excessive spending. We are in so much debt that I seriously doubt that we will ever get out of it in my great grandchildren’s lifetimes. For those who feel we need to do more I invite all of you to donate to the American Red Cross or similar charity organization of your choosing but the government was never intended to be the back drop for disasters of any type.

Mr B you have a very valid point. We aren’t paying taxes to provide a backstop for one calamity after another.

The problem is that the dangerous precedent has been established, and each harmed community points to the previous one and says, “Where’s ours?”. Where and how does it stop? IIRC Congress tried it after Sandy, and there was a tremendous uproar about propping up every other disaster and not this one.

The deficit is making scary increases, with tax cuts and defense spending leading the erosion. Add the cost of the border wall now that Mexico is not paying for it.

Round and round she goes, and where it stops…

you’re right, it’s nowhere in the constitution, but we also send billions in aid to foreign countries. Wouldn’t we want to do more to help out Americans?

        Sal,
You will get no argument from me that we spend way to much on a number of programs that have no basis in constitutional law. The fed needs to scale back to it’s original design and then there would be more available funds that the states could tax their citizens and have programs that the citizens of the individual states actually want. IE if New York and California want the ACA great for them but if Georgia and Arizona feel a county hospital type model is best then let them do that.

The end of the day people would be able to live in a state of their choosing with the taxes necessary to support what they want..

Drain the swamp and start with congressional term limits and periodic review and reappointment of the federal judiciary.
