XL Catlin’s Eells Joins Validus Specialty as Chief Operating Officer

Validus Specialty Underwriting Services announced the appointment of Bob Eells as senior vice president and chief operating officer of Validus Specialty, Western World and Crop Risk Services. Leading operations and business enablement will be among his chief responsibilities.

Eells, who joins Validus from XL Catlin, will be based in the Parsippany, New Jersey office, where he will report to Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Ritz and be a member of the organization’s leadership team.

Eells joins with 30 years of experience in commercial insurance operations. Prior to joining Validus, he focused on new products, innovations and corporate acquisitions at XL Catlin. He previously held increasingly senior roles at Catlin and worked at XL Group, Reliance Insurance and Philadelphia Insurance.

Validus Specialty offers excess and surplus and admitted insurance and operates on behalf of Western World Insurance Group and Talbot Underwriting through Lloyd’s Syndicate 1183.

XL Catlin is in the process of being acquired by AXA.
