“in the face of declining oil prices . . .” If THAT is the basis of the suit, let’s stop pretending Climate Change is the only reason oil prices could change.

A recession could cause oil prices to fall, of course. So could new technology. Like, say fracking. Oh, wait, that actually happened! Also, more efficient technologies like cars with turbo-powered engines, hybrids, LED lighting. And oh yeah, renewables that develop to the point they are no longer reliant on government subsidies to be competitive.

In other words, normal innovation could – and will – lower oil prices.

But not in Liberal Ville. There is always and forever only one possibility: Climate Change is the only possible explanation for a future where oil prices might decline, causing a decline in oil company stocks. And you know those evil oil company executives, hiding climate change from the masses, despite the efforts of millions of Climate Zealots who use scare tactics daily to make us think about it.

(Still waiting for lefties to figure out how to sue the 90% of oil producers worldwide that are actually owned by government entities. Mexico. Russia. Saudi Arabia . . . As if.)

Just so you know, U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeade was nominated by President George W. Bush on July 18, 2002.

Everything is a liberal conspiracy to this guy. So boring.

Please read the article and think before you post. The judgment announced was that the suit can go forward. If you know anything about the law, that simply means that IF the plaintiffs could prove Exxon hid knowledge about the impact of future climate change on oil price declines, the plaintiffs would have a legitimate beef.

It does NOT mean they can prove that claim. It also does NOT mean that Exxon might be able to make a case that there are dozens of reasons prices can go down, defeating the plaintiffs with what amounts to common sense (eradicated from liberal thought years ago).

And so my comment stands. (Claiming “Bush appointed the judge” is about as conspiratorial and partisan as you can get. The judge simply applied the law, something also foreign to liberals).

Your comment does not stand. You implied a liberal conspiracy that does not exist within the facts of the article.

You have an outsized fear of liberalism, you sensitive snowflake.

I am not “afraid” of liberalism. I am amused by the thinking or lack of same. Suing a fossil fuel company to stop Climate Change? What could be more pointless and ludicrous?

Let’s say Exxon loses and has to pay billions. Does that do anything to stop Climate Change? Of course not. People will just pay higher nominally higher gasoline prices. Meaning poor people as well as everyone else.

            Pretty funny, no?

Don’t bother trying to point out any type of hypocrisy to this Craig guy. He seems to only see in black and white. His brain would explode if you even tried explaining the Libertarian point of view to him. To him it’s all Democraps and Repooplicans. There is nothing in between, nor any other party or view that matters.

That is described as pure “ad hominem” attack. Let me know when you – or the Insurance Journal – are interested in ideas . . .

Libertarians are well known for their goofy beliefs. Not quite as bad as Democraps, but getting pretty close.

Depends on the libertarian, many of them are liars and are not libertarians when you look at their beliefs.

There is a lot of overlap libertarian to conservative.

        Agree. Example: Rand Paul.
