It’s not really the ridiculous lawsuits which do the damage to our society. It is the thousands and millions of routinely embellished injury and property damage claims and suits. They ought not pick on the absurd suits because that’s not where the drain on the economy arises. Jury awards are increasing much faster than inflation and there is no end in sight. If you’ve seen a jury picked lately, and I have, then you’d know why. Juries are, by and large, profligate and ignorant. It is not the nut cases bringing our republic down it is the average “woe-is-me, I’m a victim” claimant with an unprincipled lawyer and a debauched judge.

It is easy for you to pick on the members of the jury pool, Vox. However, before you point the figure at the “profligate and ignorant” ask yourself what you did the last time you were summoned to jury duty. What did you do to make yourself (surely someone who is neither profligate nor ignorant) more attractive to the lawyers during voir dire?

Unfortunately, prospective jurors are sworn in before they are asked their occupations. Otherwise, I’d tell them not using any trigger words, like “property,” “casualty,” “insurance,” “claim” and “adjuster.”

I was on a jury panel for a personal injury lawsuit. This lady had a car accident. Surprisingly the people on the panel when questioned were not for giving this lady a lot of money. They all were whining saying “I was in an accident and I didn’t get any money.” I wasn’t picked due to being in the insurance business so I don’t know if she was awarded anything or not.

At my last jury summoning, as well as all the others, I wore a nice suit and tie. This, needless to say, got me bounced as though I were trespassing. Being an intelligent, cultivated gentleman, or at least looking like one, gets you branded as too smart for jury service.

Being an Insurance Agent is automatic disqualification on any Personal Injury lawsuit.

I sat up the back of a jury selection waiting room and read a book all day. I was selected, I think primarily because I had no interest whatsoever in my surroundings.
