Human nature being what it is, an agent is going to place business with carriers that will do the best for their clients. We have reputations to uphold and a dissatisfied customer will spread the word a lot faster than a satisfied customer about their experience.

Absolutely excellent comment. You and I don’t agree on at least 85% of political issues, but I’ll put your insurance knowledge and experience up against anyone here.

rob, pretty sure you are wrong on the political issues. It is somewhere between 95-100% disagreement. How about some down votes liberals?

This just in, the Sun rises in the East !! Of course agents will place more accounts with a carrier that appreciates the work that agents put into creating a successful agency. I twice worked as a special agent / field rep. One company always tried to find a way to quote an account, the other, not so much. I was a radical in that I had my agents send all submission to me first. I logged the submission and tracked what happened. When management, at the annual agent reviews, would speculate that we needed to terminate the agent, I’d pull out my info. I would show them the % of submissions where the company provided a quote, the quotes that the agent received from other carriers, the quoted premiums and where the agent placed the account. With that info, I was able to show how much premium could have been placed with the ins company, that the agent placed elsewhere. I told them to stop blaming the agent and look internally. Of course, since management is never wrong (and had never sold a policy), we soon parted ways. That company no longer exists.

Someone needs to let the insurance companies know about this article Most companies either don’t know this or don’t care. In the late 1970’s I attended a seminar hosted by the Independent Insurance Agents Association of Georgia and I still remember it today. The name of the seminar was titled, “Eliminate the hassle factor to keep your customers.” The main theme was to keep your insured’s make sure it isn’t a hassle to do business with your agency. I think this applies to the insurance companies also but they don’t seem to understand.

Eddie, I have known several who have worked in the agency business and then failed at selling and went over to the company side. That apparently is easier than selling the product, signing the application to put insurance in force. All they have to do is tell you how wonderful their company is, show you a production report and tell you to keep up the good work.
