Pioneer Underwriters Names Former XL Catlin Executive Greggains as Its U.S. CEO

March 15, 2019

Pioneer Underwriters, the underwriting group within Minova Insurance Holdings, announced it has appointed Nick Greggains as CEO of Pioneer’s U.S. operation, effective March 25.

Greggains succeeds current U.S. CEO Gene Hinman, who will become president of Pioneer US until his retirement at the end of 2019.

Greggains brings 30 years of insurance industry experience to Pioneer, predominantly with a U.S. focus, said Pioneer in a statement. He was U.S. chief underwriting officer at Catlin between 2007 and 2015 before the merger with XL. He subsequently became director of underwriting of XL Catlin Americas (May 2015 – June 2016) and CEO of XL Catlin Canada (June 2016 – April 2018) according to his LinkedIn profile.

Greggains will be based in New York and will report to Andrew McMellin, Pioneer Group CEO.

“Pioneer has built a successful U.S operation over the past few years and remains a key strategic focus for us,” said McMellin, adding that Greggains “has the talent, expertise and market recognition to spearhead our expansion plans.”

He thanked Hinman “for his success in establishing Pioneer in the US. He has been an invaluable asset to our business. As president, he will provide welcome expert advice during the transition.”
