Berkshire Hathaway health care liability insurance unit MedPro Group has agreed to acquire the healthcare professional liability business of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions effective Oct. 11.
The agreement includes hospital and senior care accounts underwritten by SRCS from the U.S., as well as U.S. hospital and international healthcare professional liability accounts underwritten by SRCS from London and other offices around the world.
Current SRCS policyholders will be eligible to receive renewal offers from MedPro and its affiliates upon the expiration of their policies. Several key members of the SRCS healthcare team are joining MedPro, according to the announcement.
“This transaction is further evidence of our unwavering dedication to the challenging healthcare liability market in the U.S. and, increasingly, around the world,” said Jean-Paul Rebillard, president, MedPro Specialty.
MedPro CEO Tim Kenesey said that more healthcare providers choose MedPro over any other insurer.
MedPro Group reports more than $1.6 billion in premium, Its health care liability insurance products in the U.S. are administered by MedPro Group and underwritten by The Medical Protective Co., Princeton Insurance Co., PLICO, Inc., MedPro RRG Risk Retention Group and other Berkshire Hathaway affiliates, including National Fire & Marine Insurance Co.
