Why are you not blaming the drivers for not paying attention, not keeping their eyes on the road, and not being able to immediately take over for Autopilot should an emergency situation arise?
Uh huh….so we didn’t have anyone being decapitated from their front windshield until we started putting “window glass” in there because there were no windshields before then. Would you have argued back then that we need to ban windshields?
One of your weaker arguments. Surely you can do better than that.

Well, my argument is weak because Agent’s post is misguided.
The crashes are happening because the drivers are inattentive, aren’t paying attention, and aren’t ready to take over for Autopilot when an emergency situation arises.

Agent, and you consider your argument of “Let’s recall all of them!” Not weak? Why don’t you posit some data to back up your argument. Oh wait, you don’t post data, just loud incendiary comments.

We didn’t have crashes until Tesla, Agent? I see drivers doing dumb things everyday, leading to a crash.
Misguided, Rosenblatt? How about you waking up and smelling the coffee for a change? Tesla makes an unsafe car with a feature that can’t recognize a semi trailer truck or a pedestrian. Delete the feature or take the vehicles off the road.
Agent – Autopilot is not a feature where you “set it and forget it.”
You do not engage Autopilot and then get to go to sleep, or or watch a video, or turn around and check on your dog in the back seat as one driver reported he did in this article.

In the same token, if someone sets cruise control to hold a steady 55 on the highway and the car in front of them slams on the brake the driver needs to engage the brakes to turn off cruise and slow down. The car does not automatically stop as it cannot determine what another driver/vehicle will do. That doesn’t mean we should get rid of cruise control as a feature. People need to use common sense and realize they still have to drive and be aware of their surroundings and road hazards and react accordingly.
Now I do think there are some issues with Tesla’s that really do need to be addressed but I don’t think we should just ban them altogether.
100% agree sak74. And one of those issues I believe we’ve discussed before (sorry if I’m attributing this to you when someone else brought it up) is the name itself: Autopilot is a horrible name for this technology.
Even if they named it “additional vehicle assist” or something else equally lame, that’d be better than Autopilot (then again, I don’t work in Marketing for Tesla!)

Rosenblatt,
Maybe they should call the feature “Agent”, since it’s there to assist you but not be solely in control of avoiding a loss. Or maybe we can call it “Common Sense”, since it’s common sense to most of us there aren’t any autonomous vehicles in today’s personal market. Now, there are some commercial truck tractors operating. They are driving across Texas delivering appliances and other products:
How about we recall all Tesla’s until further notice like we did to Boeing? They are a menace to safety and the American people.

We didn’t have this problem until Tesla came out with it. Sorry, they just need to go away.
Sorry, but the current President is all for innovation and progress as a way to create jobs and industry. Get on board!!!!

Stop blaming the vehicle for operator error.
You Liberals (see Senator Blumenthal’s comments) should realize that “Autopilot” does not mean the same as “Autonomous.”
