The shooter was a seriously disturbed individual who was kicked out of his junior college for his disturbing behavior. Oh yeah, he also voted Democrat. But why wait for facts if you are a “newspaper”?

It must be Palin’s fault. (Nick Sandman anyone?)

Presuming Palin proves her argument, the NYT should 100% be held liable for their disinformation. Now if only we could hold our elected officials to the same standard when they retweet doctored videos…..

You don’t want to get into a comparison of lies told by politicians about other people. It could go on for eternity.

But the “news” industry, considered by the Founding Fathers as essential for holding the powerful to account, for shining a light on all power . . . they have abdicated that role. And if you don’t see the danger of people no longer trusting the news media, then you aren’t thinking. People can believe anything they want now.

In fact, you can make a strong case that all of the protests and violence are based on a false understanding of the facts.

Palin and Sandman are simply canaries in the coal mine.

          Craig,

          MAKE
          LYING
          WRONG
          AGAIN
          FROM
          EVERYONE:
          REPUBLICANS
          DEMOCRATS
          ELECTED OFFICIALS
          NEWSPAPERS
          INTERNET POSTERS

          I’m not comparing anything.

I’m simply saying ALL lies need to stop.

Can we agree on that simple argument?

There’s no way Craig will agree to that, lying on these boards is his bread and butter. He only cares about lies if they’re against the republican party, but lies told by the republican party are just fine in his book. Literally years of his posts back this up.

Whatever. Re-read Machiavelli. Politicians have been lying since the beginning of time. And I guarantee your outrage at politicians lying didn’t surface during Obama’s time in office.

But national trust in the news media is at an all time low. An all time low for Democrats and liberals too.

And it is dangerous to have a dishonest, partisan and corrupt news media. THEY used to be the ones we relied on to point out lying by politicians. Now, it is only politicians they don’t like.

How come you just can’t say ALL LYING IS WRONG, Craig? Either you don’t think all lying is wrong or you can’t bring yourself to simply agree with me on anything. Which one is it?

Because, Rosenblatt, lying by the news media is dangerous in a way that lying by politicians is not.

The news media is FIRST AND FOREMOST expected to be fair and truthful.

The fact you can’t make the distinction is frightening. It is the reason it is happening, the inability to see that a lying media will destroy us. And it has already gone WAY down that road.

Well, I’d argue that ALL LYING IS WRONG but the impact those lies have depend on BOTH who is lying and the lie itself.

A newspaper lying about a murderer’s criminal history is less dangerous than a politician who lies saying COVID-19 is a hoax.

A newspaper that lies about something like this article discusses certainly is more dangerous than a politician lying about “no new taxes”.

So let me rephrase a bit Craig and see if we can come to an agreement…..

Can you simply agree that ALL LYING IS WRONG, but some people who lie (and the lies they tell) are more dangerous to the public than other people who less damaging lies?

You can say it. Lying is wrong.
Just acknowledge that and we can move on.

….. or call for their political followers to confront and drive their political opponents from public places (e.g. gas stations, restaurants, etc).

We can all play this game all day.

What are you, six years old? OF COURSE all lying is wrong. (Except lies to protect people from harm . . .)

Now can YOU admit lying by the news media is worse – far worse – than lying by politicians?

P.S. Gun sales to Black Americans are up 58% this year. First, guess why? Second, how many black deaths will result from this?
