From an agent’s perspective, I’m not a fan. Chubb/Ace is more of a broker carrier than an agency carrier, and acquiring a settled and consistent market like The Hartford will prove disruptive, as it always does when a solid market like The Hartford gets swallowed by a big whale that has no direct street knowledge of the acquired company’s client base. We saw the same thing happen over the years numerous times, Zurich’s purchase of Maryland Casualty comes to mind, and where are they today? Coincidentally, The Hartford bought the remnants of that long-neglected book.
Two amazing insurers but thank goodness that at least at this time the merger did not materialize. Each company has its own strength and philosophy and it would be hard to imagine how such a merger could ever work satisfactorily. Let’s hope this merger never happens or we’ll likely all be losers!
Historic to say the least!
Historic but anti-competitive.

As an agent that represents both companies, I am so not a fan of this idea.
