If the FBI can figure out how to take Bitcoin away from hackers, how long do you think it will be before hackers can take it away from everyone else? It sounds like cryptocurrency (which some imagine will be the backbone of the whole blockchain re-invention of tech infrastructure) isn’t as secure as we thought.
I think we need to get some more information on how this was accomplished before we jump on the “let’s trash crypto as unsecure” bandwagon. Everything is only as secure as the password you use to access it, whether it’s your crypto wallet or your bank login. I wonder if we’ll get some more details at some point of just how the FBI accessed the digital wallet? Something that struck me about this whole situation is that that the value of Bitcoin was on such a downhill trajectory that the hackers lost much of it’s value within days of getting it. Of course, give it a week and the value could have gone the other way instead.
