In my local area, the city and county did some flood mitigation efforts. As a result, they removed a huge area of properties in a low lying area of town from the FEMA flood map. This really cut cost’s for property owners in that area, but almost all of them cancelled their flood insurance to reduce their monthly mortgage payment and expenses. Hopefully there will not be major flooding in that area, but this is not just FEMA’s fault. Local officials are being screamed at by their citizens.
