Hanna Joins Insurance Council of Texas

December 11, 2002

The Insurance Council of Texas (Council ) appointed former Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) public information officer, Mark Hanna, as manager of public relations. In his new position, Hanna will speak on behalf of more than 400 property and casualty companies that make up the state’s largest insurance trade organization.

He spent more than eight years in TDI’s public information office where he helped prepare the Commissioner’s speeches, wrote news releases and served as editor of the agency’s monthly newsletter.

“It’s rare to find someone who has had extensive experience in the news media and public relations, and also has a strong background in insurance,” said Rick Gentry, executive director of the Council. “Hanna is a perfect fit to deliver accurate, objective information about the industry to the public, news media and public officials.”

Hanna will help the Council more effectively communicate about the business of insurance, coordinate existing programs and begin new communications initiatives.

At TDI, Hanna worked under four commissioners and often served as the agency’s spokesperson. As a professional narrator, Hanna voiced most of TDI’s in-house videos and Agency Licensing information for agents and companies. He created TDI’s NEWSline, which adapted the agency’s voice mail into nearly 200 recorded reports and sound bites for radio stations statewide.
