Former Louisiana insurance commissioner Jim Brown was released from prison after serving a six-month sentence for lying to the FBI. According to the New Orleans Times Picayune, the ex-commissioner left in style—in a limousine chartered by his wife, Gladys.
He also emerged some 28 pounds lighter and with a newfound expertise in rap music.
Brown indicated he is ready to get on with his life and will not be holding grudges. He was suspended from the commissioner’s office after his conviction on charges of lying to an FBI agent. Brown resigned from office after the U.S. Supreme Court refused for a second time to review his conviction.
Brown, who will turn 63 next month, said he read over 100 books during his stay at the Oakdale Correctional Center in rural Allen Parish. He got an education in rap music while lifting weights daily with big, tough fellow inmates with large tattoos.
Brown not only read books while incarcerated, he wrote one about his trial experience and began another about being in prison. In addition to promoting his books, Brown, who had to surrender his license to practice law when he was convicted, plans join the speakers circuit and is considering forming a consulting firm.
