Business law firm Winstead Sechrest & Minick announced that pay clauses, sovereign immunity, prompt pay and dispute resolution are among the issues Robert C. Bass, chair of Winstead’s Construction Practice and a Shareholder in firm’s Litigation/Dispute Resolution Section, will address during the Texas State Bar’s Insurance Law Conference. The conference is scheduled for June 19 and 20, 2003, at the Renaissance Hotel in Austin, Texas.
Titled, “Before the Ink is Dry — An Insider’s Look at the New Tort and Insurance Legislation,” the conference will provide lawyers, risk managers and insurance professionals insightful information and thought-provoking commentary on the potential opportunities and challenges of the so-called new tort reform and legislation.
Bass is scheduled to address recently enacted tort and insurance legislation in Texas from a construction lawyer’s perspective, on Friday, June 20, beginning at 1 p.m. The presentation will concentrate on those changes affecting the construction industry, and will provide practical implications on how the new legislation could impact those businesses and professionals involved with the construction industry.
“During the final days of the 2003 Texas Legislative session, several new and far reaching tort and insurance laws were made that will have a major impact on various industries, construction being just one,” Bass stated. “This meeting serves as a great vehicle to bring together the state’s leading attorneys and those professionals involved with the effected industries, to discuss the impact of the legislative changes on these industries and to address strategies for compliance.”
