IIA of Dallas Names New Officers

The Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas announced that John B. Webb is the new president of the association for 2003-2004. Tim Shackelford was elected president-elect and Karen Bitzer was elected secretary/treasurer.

Webb has been with Maxson Mahoney Turner Inc. of Dallas for over 10 years, serving as a commercial lines producer and vice president. He has achieved a number of accomplishments as a long-time active member of IIA of Dallas and its various committees, including a term as president-elect of the IIA of Dallas and serving on the Board of Directors from 1998 through 2000. Previously, he was the Big “I” Day Golf and Tennis Tournament chairman for two terms and the Young Agents chairman for two terms. He was the recipient of the “Young Agent of the Year” for 2000.

Shackelford is executive vice president of Horizons Insurance Group Inc., an affiliate of Compass Bank in Dallas. He has been with Horizons for the past 17 years. Shackelford began his insurance career in 1981 with Travelers Insurance and joined the agency ranks in 1986 with Peavy Insurance Agency. He became a shareholder of Horizons in 1989 and has remained with the firm through two mergers and acquisitions.

His service to the IIA of Dallas includes a term as secretary/treasurer and chairperson of the All Industry Day committee and Big “I” Day Golf & Tennis Tournament from 1994 through 1996.

Bitzer is chief information officer and vice president of automation at Roach Howard Smith & Hunter. She is also a long-time active member of IIA of Dallas and has served on various committees. Bitzer serves on the All Industry Day committee and was chairperson of the Internet/Automation committee last year. This is her fourth year to serve on the IIA of Dallas Board.
