Louisiana Sen. Cain Appointed Insurance Committee Chair

January 26, 2004

Republican Sen. James David Cain was appointed the new chairman of the Louisiana Senate Insurance Committee, and the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) praised his appointment.

“Senate President Don Hines is to be commended for his selection of Senator Cain for this important chairmanship,” David Reddick, Louisiana state affairs manager for NAMIC, said. “Senator Cain brings a wealth of experience to this appointment as a 32-year veteran of the Legislature, and we look forward to him serving with distinction in his new position.”

Cain, who previously served as chair of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee, will chair the Insurance Committee for the 2004-08 legislative terms.

Reddick also noted that Sen. Cain has said that his first order of business will be to organize an insurance briefing with members of his new committee, insurance department personnel and industry representatives.

“We understand that Senator Cain wants to know why so few insurance companies are willing to do business in Louisiana,” Reddick said. “He seems sincere in wanting to increase competition in the state, a position that NAMIC favors.”

The Louisiana Legislature will convene March 29 and is scheduled to adjourn June 21.
