The Board of Directors of New Orleans-based Pan-American Life Insurance Company announced the election of José S. Suquet as president, chief executive officer and member of the Board of Directors.

John J. Kelly, chairman of the Board, has served as interim president and chief executive officer. Kelly will continue as chairman of the Board.

Suquet has held senior management posts in the insurance industry for more than two decades, including serving as senior executive vice president of AXA Financial, with responsibilities that included managing the company’s multiple distribution channels and service operations. During his six-year tenure at the company’s corporate office, AXA’s sales rose from $5.5 billion to more than $13 billion.

Over the past 25 years, he has served major insurance organizations in management, operations, sales and marketing positions, for both domestic and overseas operations.

Pan-American Life Insurance is a strong and well-established mutual life insurance company, a leader in serving business organizations and individual customers in Latin America as well as the Caribbean Basin, and in regional markets in the United States.

In his new post, Suquet will design and implement programs to broaden the company’s presence in the U.S. Hispanic market through worksite marketing and senior market initiatives, as well as guide further expansion in Latin America and in key U.S. markets.
