Texas Surplus Lines Group Heads to Calif. for Mid-Year Meeting in July

The Texas Surplus Lines Association (TSLA) will be hosting its 2006 Mid-Year Meeting July 23-26 at the Four Seasons Aviara in Carlsbad, Calif. TSLA celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

Speakers scheduled for this meeting are:

“State of the Industry”
Kevin Kelly, chairman and CEO, Lexington Insurance Company
Kelly will provide a current look at the industry today and what he thinks about the impact of past and future hurricanes.

“Surplus Lines – Opportunities and Challenges”
Stan Galanski, president and CEO, The Navigators Group Inc.
Galanski will discuss the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for the surplus lines industry.

“Non-Competes – Do They Work?”
Michael W. Jones, partner, Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons LLP
Jones will discuss the current status of the law and issues with regard to employee contracts.

“Health Care and How Consumerism Will Affect the Future”
Larry McKee, Jardine Lloyd Thompson, LLC
McKee will provide insight as to what employers and employees can expect in the future.

“From Affidavits to E-filing—the Evolution of SLSOT or “No Wonder You’re Calm; You Don’t Have All the Facts”
Phil Ballinger, executive director, Surplus Lines Stamping Office of Texas
Ballinger will discuss how the stamping office was formed and the integral part that TSLA played. Phil will also talk about how the stamping office has progressed.

“Surplus Lines and the National Stage”
President Mac Wesson and Executive Director Dick Bouhan, NAPSLO
Wesson and Bouhan will provide a full report on the association activities and an update on what is happening in Washington.

“Surplus Line Association. of California Update”
Ted Pierce, executive director, Surplus Line Association of California
Pierce will provide an update on what is happening in the insurance industry in California.

In addition, the presidents of both the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas and the Federation of Insurance Women of Texas will provide updates.
