The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) has awarded academic scholarships to 10 students at the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg and the University of Texas at San Antonio. Professors acknowledged each scholarship recipient as exemplary students.
The University of Texas at Pan American scholarship recipients are Maria Herrera, Juan Longoria, Katherine Ortiz, Omar Rodriguez and Vanessa Torres. Dr. Cynthia Brown, Associate Professor of Finance at UTPA, said all of her scholarship recipients were outstanding students who had overcome many obstacles to earn a college education.
The University of Texas at San Antonio scholarship recipients are Patrick Harbin, Aaron Langford, Ryan McLeaird, Craig Ogden and Alejandra Vallejo. UTSA Finance Professor Ron Sweet said his students were very solid individuals as demonstrated by their ability to hold down full-time jobs and handle the rigors of school life and be successful at both.
Since the scholarship program began, ICT has awarded $125,000 in academic scholarships to six universities and 106 students studying insurance and risk management.
