Oh absolutely – I’ll sign up right awar so that Progressive, and anyone that acceses their system, knows when I drive, where I drive, how fast I drive and the like. Perhaps they have a camcorder feature so that they can see every movement in the car. Yeah right. Big brother is coming soon enough, but his name is not Progressive.

Interesting how consumers have complained and complained about high auto insurance rates have become and the common argument is that “I don’t drive like other people” or “I only use my truck on the weekend to pull my boat”. Give Progressive (or any other company)credit for trying to figure this out. I really don’t care if they or you knows where & when I’m going. Why should you. Afraid Progressive will tell your wife you spend too much time at the strip club?

I agree with you SWFL. I hear time and time again “Why are my rates that high?! I’m a good driver! I should be paying less” If I didn’t drive at night, or drove as much as I do, I would sign up on renewal. Even if they used it as a GPS (which to my knowledge they do not), I have nothing to hide. A great use for this product is for parents to monitor their kids driving. “Now Junior, if you drive well, you will see a lower rate on renewal, but if you drive dangerously, you will have to pay more for your insurance on renewal” And as the parent, I would be darn sure to make sure the child pays the premium.

And their MyRate product is 100% optional. If you don’t want “Big Brother” watching where you are driving, then when the agent asks you if you want to sign up for it, tell them no. Its that simple! Just don’t come back to them and ask why your rate isn’t lower.
