Louisiana and Texas families displaced by Hurricanes Ike and Gustav now have until March 31 to transition to permanent housing.
U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan and Craig Fugate, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said that the extension of the Disaster Housing Assistance Program will give the 6,000 families in the program an additional five months to get into permanent housing.
The program has provided temporary rental assistance to families since November 2008. It was scheduled to end Oct. 31.
