Republican Mark Darr has beaten Democrat Shane Broadway for Arkansas lieutenant governor.
Darr, from Rogers, Ark., clinched the victory in the close race in his first ever attempt at elected office. Darr is an insurance agent for Wealthbridge Financial Services and also owns the Mad Pizza Co. Broadway is a state senator from Bryant and a former speaker of the Arkansas House.
The lieutenant governor’s office is a part-time job and largely ceremonial in nature. Darr said he’d use the office as a counterweight to national and state Democrats, including Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe.
