Pan-American Life Insurance Group (PALIG), which provides insurance and reinsurance internationally, announced that Dr. Jose Antonio Villamil has been appointed to the company’s board of directors.
Dr. Villamil has more than 30 years of experience as a business economist, university educator and high-level policymaker for both federal and state governments. He served as a Presidential appointee as the U.S. Undersecretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs under President George H. W. Bush administration.
Dr. Villamil is a member of the President’s Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations in Washington, D.C. and is the immediate past Chairman of the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors of Florida. During 1999-2000, he directed the Tourism, Trade and Economic Development activities of the State in the Office of Governor Jeb Bush.
Currently Dr. Villamil resides in Miami and is on the Board of Directors for Spanish Broadcasting System, Mercantil Commercebank, N.A. and Enterprise Florida – the State’s principal economic development organization. Since August 2008, Dr. Villamil has served as the Dean of the School of Business at St. Thomas University, Miami, Fla.
