An environmental group has filed a lawsuit to compel the release of documents related to the safety of two dams on the Texas-Mexico border.
The federal lawsuit was filed in Washington, D.C., by the group Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility.
The lawsuit alleges the International Boundary and Water Commission has withheld all reports and emergency plans on the two dams the group requested under the Freedom of Information Act. The group wants to assess the current state of the dams because of previous safety concerns raised by inspectors.
The dams are Amistad, located near Del Rio, and Falcon, in South Texas.
A water commission spokeswoman referred questions to the Justice Department, which did not return a call seeking comment.
