A South Carolina company is donating a used fire truck to a Texas volunteer fire department whose station was destroyed by fire earlier this month.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports Palmetto Fire Apparatus is donating the truck to the 356 Volunteer Fire Department in Trinity, Texas.
The Trinity station and equipment worth about $400,000 burned July 17. There was no insurance and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire department volunteer Regina Baker says the department serves an area with retirees on fixed incomes. The department’s 20 volunteers have been working for days to fight wildfires.
