The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) has presented Independent Leadership Awards to the Honorable Kelly Hancock, Texas House of Representatives, and the Honorable John Carona, Texas Senate.
With close to 10 terms served in the Texas Legislature between the two of them, both Rep. Hancock and Sen. Carona have proven themselves to be leaders both in their communities and among their peers. Hancock and Carona, both small business owners, have been recognized extensively by the business community, the IIAT noted.
Carona currently serves as the chairman of the Senate Business and Commerce Committee and joint-chair of the Legislative Oversight Board on Windstorm Insurance.
Hancock serves on the House Insurance Committee and is currently running in the Republican primary for Senate District 9 (which is subject to change pending the federal redistricting ruling).
“Hancock and Carona have been champions for the small business community and for the independent agent community,” said IIAT President Bob Shepard of Harlingen. “This session they voted to maintain the business margin tax exemption, fought to keep agent and consumer-friendly language in the new TWIA regulations, and jointly passed into law new requirements regarding the approval of certificates of insurance forms by the Texas Department of Insurance. The new law was a major victory for consumers and agents.”
The Independent Leadership Award was presented during IIAT’s 49th Annual Joe Vincent Management Seminar.
