Central Texas Hit with Damaging Hail

April 3, 2013

Heavy rain and hail fell throughout the Central Texas area this week but it appears Marble Falls received the brunt of the storm. Golf ball size hail damaged more than 1,000 vehicles, pounding roofs and breaking windows in both automobiles and homes throughout the city.

A Marble Falls automobile dealership, Johnson Sewell Ford Lincoln, had 400 vehicles damaged from the hail. Marilyn Schaefer, an employee at the dealership, said the hail stones were hard and the storm lasted a long time. “We had people from nearby used car lots trying to make some quick deals with their damaged cars,” said Schaefer.

The windows to at least two Burnet County Sheriff patrol cars in the Marble Falls area were knocked out from the hail. In nearby Kingsland, large accumulations of hail made the area look like it had been hit by a snowfall.

The storm moved into the Austin area bringing with it reports of smaller hail and heavy rains which caused minor flooding on roadways in the city. Heavy rain and strong winds also occurred east of the Austin area.
