The big 3 always justify their rate increases due to the cat storms, etc. Nothing ever reported on the smaller carriers. Aren’t they suffering losses also? What kind of loss ratios are they contending with? I guess I’m not smart enough to figure this out. Anybody want to enlighten me?

My, very uneducated, guess is the smaller companies don’t get enough clicks, thus reporting on their rates/losses just doesn’t matter.

KYjw, Don’t you know that IJ will always focus on the Big 3 in any article? All carriers have problems writing home in Texas and have passed on rate increases to consumers. Loss ratios over 100 will tend to do that. Also, they tend to play follow the leader when a State Farm or Allstate announces a rate increase. By the way, back in the early 2000’s, at the end of the mold crisis, most carriers were refunding overcharged premiums per the Texas Dept of Insurance edict – except for State Farm who was defiant and has never refunded one cent even after a judge ordered them to.

          Agent,

I thought Texas is the perfect place to do business. Maybe just for unregulated businesses.

It’s the best place to have a manure mansion, that’s for sure. You can put that business anywhere, doesn’t matter how much ammonium nitrate you have or how close to a town it is. Just throw it up and start counting your Benjamins.

Don’t you fret, Texas’ll keep ‘way that good-fer-nuthin’ Dept. of Homelan’ Securita with their rules ’bout how much splosive materiu’ul ya’ll can have.

So the Star is a target then? See I thought that was where Jerry Jones took his 25 year olds after the game to show them where the magic happens. “I can make you a star!” he tells them. #jerryjonesgot99problemsbut25yearoldsain’tone

Yes, txmouth, that’s where the, um, “stars” align, if you will.
